4. Figure 1 shows a rectangular water tank with AB = 12 cm containing some water. Mary is going to put
some identical blocks into the tank. The volume of each block is 32 cm3.

(a) After 6 blocks are put into the tank and they are totally
submerged in water, the rise in water level is 2 cm.

(b) It is known that the total wet lateral surface area of the
tank is 280 cm2 now, which is 70% of the lateral
surface area of the tank. Mary claims that if she puts 10

5. The costs of Tea A and Tea B are $12 /g and $16 /g respectively. A company wants to make a

“SuperTea” by mixing the two types of teas in the ratio x : y.

(c) The cost of Tea A is now increased by 10%. If the cost of SuperTea remains unchanged, find the

In map A, the distance between two buildings is 4.5 cm. The scale of map A is known to be 1 : 25 000.

(b) If the actual area of a country park is 1.5 km2, find its area on map A. (3 marks)

(c) The area of a museum on map A is 6.4 cm2. If its area on map B is 2.5 cm2, find the scale of map B.
