1. State the parallelogram law of addition of vectors. Hence, derive the magnitude & direction of
resultant vector.
2. Explain the variation of the acceleration due to gravity with distance above and below the earth’s
surface.
3. Derive lens Maker’s formula.
4. What do you mean by magnetic field intensity? Derive and expression for the magnetic field
intensity at a point on the equatorial line of a bar magnet.

5. Define work. State and prove work energy principle.
6. Prove that coefficient of static friction is equal to the tangent of angle of repose.
7. Derive an expression for rotating kinetic energy of rigid body.
8. State and explain the Stefan’s law of black body radiation.
9. Derive isothermal process. Derive an expression for the work done in isothermal process.
10. Establish the relation between coefficient of linear expansion and coefficient of superficial
expansion in solids.

14. A motorcycle rider going with a velocity of 60 km/hr around a curve with radius of 50 m must
lean at an angle to the vertical. Determine the angle at which he leans.
15. A simple pendulum is oscillating at the rate of 30 times per minute. Calculate the time period and
length of the pendulum.
16. A copper ball weighing 400gm is transferred from a furnace to 1 kg of water at 20 ℃. The
temperature of water rises to 50℃. What is the original temperature of copper ball?
17. A steel rod of length 1m at 0℃ is heated to 100℃. Calculate the increase in length of rod.
18. The refractive index of glass prism is 1.5. If the angle of minimum deviation is 37.2°. What is the
angle of prism?
19. An image is placed 6cm from the convex mirror of focal length 10 cm. Calculate the image
distance and magnification.
