This sample template is to be used in conjunction with the ASTM Author Instructions and

Style Manual found online here: https://www.astm.org/PUBLISH/. A sample paper is also

provided on the paper submission site. Your manuscript must include the following information.

Required formatting

Please submit your manuscript in a Microsoft Word format; single-column, 12 point Times New

Roman font with 1-inch margins. If you have used LaTex to create your manuscript, please

upload a PDF version as the main document and your LaTex files as supplementary material.

ABSTRACT

The abstract should be a self-contained, single paragraph of no more than 300 words. It should

not contain references, footnotes, mathematical equations, tabular material, or figures.

Keywords

List 5–10 keywords, using a comma between each keyword. Think about a Google-type search

when selecting your key words.

Introduction (Main Level Heading Style)

This is the main level heading that you should use in your paper. For length requirements,

refer to the Author Instructions, Appendix B. The paper should be carefully proofread by the

author. ASTM will copyedit and format the paper after it is approved, however, it is the author’s

responsibility to ensure the manuscript is in good scientific American English. The paper should

be double-spaced throughout.

Every reference must be called out in the text, i.e., “the length of the wire is always

copper and must be at least 10mm in length.”1 For GTJ authors ONLY, please check the ASTM

Style Manual for the preferred Bibliographic Author/Date Style. All other authors should use this

numerical citation/reference method. Cite standards in the text: This was found to be the case as

according to ASTM E741-821 or ASTM E741.2

For tables and figures, refer to the ASTM Author Instructions for details. Permissions are

required in writing for any table or figure used that was previously published. Include the source

(reference number) of the table or figure after the caption. All tables and figures must have a

caption and number. Every table and figure must be referred to in the text. Use “figure” in a

sentence and “fig.” in parentheses: As shown in figures 1a and 2c, or (figs. 2a–d).

Materials and Methods

SUBHEADING ONE

This is the first subheading that you should use in your paper.

Subheading Two

This is the second subheading that you should use in your paper.

Subheading Three

This is the third level subheading that you should use in your paper.

TABLE 1

Insert a title for your table. Make sure the table in your table file is editable. Tables are captioned

above the table.

Insert a title for your figure. Make sure the figures follow the style guidance given previously in

this document. Figures are captioned above the figure.

Results and Discussion

The results and discussion section should be presented together using subheadings as appropriate

for organization.

grant number if applicable.
