4 Minneapolis Officers Fired After Death of Black Man

The F.B.I. and Minnesota law

enforcement authorities are
investigating the arrest of a black
man who died after being hand
cuffed and pinned to the ground by
an officer's knee, in an episode that
was recorded on video by a
bystander and that sparked large
protests in Minneapolis on Tuesday.

After the graphic video circulated

widely on social media, the mayor
issued a statement “I am denouncing
the actions of the four Officers who
were involved” and he also informed the public “on Tuesday afternoon they were fired and
the police will investigate the incident further” . The victim was identified as George Floyd.
The medical examiner at Hennepin County Medical Center stated,” Mr. Floyd died at 9.25
yesterday”.

Mr. Floyd's family members told CNN on Tuesday night that the officers should be charged
with murder. “They treated him worse than they treat animals, They took a life — they deserve
life.” said Philonise Floyd, Mr. Floyd's brother. “The arrest took place on Monday evening”,
the Minneapolis Police Department said in a statement. After officers responded to a call about
a man suspected of forgery, the police said “the man was found sitting on top of a blue car and
appeared to be under the influence”.

The department's state men said “The police ordered him to step from his car and after he got
out, he physically resisted officers. Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and
noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress.”

On Tuesday morning, without referring to the video recorded by a bystander, the police made
a statement. The Hennepin County Sheriff said "a Man died after a Medical Incident during
Police Interaction”. On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis tweeted “Anyone
who exploit their powers will face the same consequences. This is the right call”

Following the incident, protest have begun worldwide demanding justice for all Black
Americans killed by the police. A protester at the rally said “We will not stop until the justice
is served”. Another protester added “This sets an example for everyone who treats people
inhumanly. Black Lives Matter”
