3. Units of Credit: 2 ( Theory: 0.5 and Practice: 1.5)
4. Entry Level: 2nd year students
5. Time Allocation:
- Theory: 07 periods
- Practice: 23 periods
- Autonomous learning: students are encouraged to self-study while subject to the
teacher’s periodical assessment. The minimum time for self-study is 60 hours.
6. Prerequisites:
- Students are required to have completed Listening 2.
- English competency required is mid-B1 (CEFR)
7. Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will achieve the following
learning outcomes:
7.1 Knowledge: Students will be able to:
- know and understand some knowledge of the topic areas in Economics-
Commerce such as Cultures, Human Resources, International Markets, Ethics,
Leadership, and Competition;
- develop some listening skills such as predicting, identifying speaker’s purpose,
interpreting cues and transitions, listening for information and note-taking via tasks
and practice exercises;
- apply listening tactics in different real-life business communication cases.
7.2 Skills: Students will be able to:
- listen and identify stressed words, intonation, common reductions in spoken
language;
- listen for gist and take notes of essential information;
- apply the acquired knowledge to do listening exercises;
- hear and understand the content of business conversations, interviews, debates or
announcements in similar cases.
7.3 Attitude: Students will:
- be aware of the importance of listening skills and strategies;
- be more confident when communicating in English;
- be conscious of self-study and frequent practice to improve listening
comprehension.
At the end of the course, students are expected to achieve listening skills at level
B1 (CEFR).
8. Course Description:
The course consists of the last 6 units with a wide variety of areas in Market Leader
-Intermediate – 3rd edition, David Cotton, David Falvey & Simon Kent), which lasts
within 8 sessions or 30 periods of classwork.
Each unit lesson has 2 main parts:
- Part 1: listening to conversations or interviews to people in business (emphasize to
develop listening skills and note-taking).
- Part 2: listening to individual sounds (vowels, consonants, diphthongs), stressed
words, intonation and common reductions in spoken language.
Besides, students are prepared to do some listening practice for international exams
orientation.
9. Performance Requirements: In order to pass this subject, students are required to
- Attend class regularly;
- Complete homework and class assignments;
- Participate in class discussion and other activities;
- Work in teams and give presentations.
