Learning Competencies
Explain the properties of solids, liquids, and gases based on the particle nature of
matter
I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Distinguish common properties of the phases of matter;
2. Compare and contrast the properties of Solid, Liquid, and Gas
3. Cite the importance of the properties of matter in our daily lives and to the
environment.

A. Preliminary Activities

( The teacher will call student/s to recap the past lesson.)
B. Motivation
1. The teacher will bring students attention to the statement: “Everything
is made of matter”. Knowing this, the teacher will then ask the
students, “If everything is made of matter, how do we know matter
exists?” Through a few shares, students can determine matter exists in
the forms such as solids, liquids, and gases.
2. The teacher will then let the students do the activity “Characteristics
Sort” to identify characteristics that distinguish solids, liquids, and
gases.
C. Presentation/Discussion
( The teacher will discuss the properties of solids, liquids, and gas based
on the particle nature of matter)
D. Activity
1. The teacher will hand out a pack with a variety of images on cards to
each group. The students are tasks to arrange the cards into solids,
liquids, and gases categories.
2. Presentation of activity of each group will follow through a quick pick.
E. Analysis
1. The teacher will explain the properties of matter via Power point
Presentation
2. The teacher will then give each student a packet of 3 Frayer models
graphic organizer to work on.
F. Abstraction
The teacher will display model of the particles on the board then
summarize the class discussion and view of particle models by writing the
three main points of the particle theory on the board.
1. All matter is made up of particles
2. Particles are in constant motion
3. Particles are attracted towards on another
G. Application
( The teacher will group the students into three and let them demonstrate the
arrangement of particles in solid, liquid and gas. One member of the group
will explain the importance of studying matter in our daily lives and its use in
the environment.
