Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?

Through the completion of this experience, I learned what it takes to develop a plan for technology
implementation that is effective and appropriate for the specific school/district you are planning
for. There is a lot of time, thought, and research that goes into researching the current needs,
improvement plans, and goals that are in place to develop a shared vision and action steps to
implement the new vision. Before this field experience, I had never written a grant proposal so this
was completely new to me and quite honestly, a little intimidating. As I worked through the Tech
Plan Project, I became more comfortable in my skills and knowledge and using them to write a
grant proposal that could be used to implement the plan I had developed.

2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you
be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the
language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)
Knowledge- This learning related to the knowledge I must have as an instructional technology
coach because I had to use it to develop plans for my school that were related to both school
improvement goals and the ability to implement and use technology appropriately to reach this
goals. I had to use the knowledge I have gained to read the current vision and mission then add to
it so it included technology that was available or attainable. Finally, I had to use my knowledge of
technology to develop a plan to implement the technology as well as how to teach faculty and staff
how to use the technology effectively in their classrooms.

Skills – The learning related to this experience required me to use the skills I have as an
instructional technology leader because I had to develop a plan that made sense for the students
and teachers who would be using it. I also had to use the skills I have to develop professional
learning opportunities for these teachers to ensure they understood how to use each of the
technology resources and tools included in the new shared vision so they would make a positive
impact on student learning. The skills I have obtained over the course of this program helped me
to research the current improvement plan/tech plan, use what I learned from my research to
develop a shared vision and action plan, then finally to write a technology grant proposal that
would help provide professional learning opportunities for staff development.

Dispositions – As a technology leader, it is easy to convey your attitude, beliefs, and enthusiasm
toward the use of technology tools and resources in the classroom and how it can be used to
promote student growth and engagement. It is not always so easy, however, to get others on board
with you. This is one of the challenges I faced throughout this field experience. Providing teachers
with the opportunity to learn how to make better use of the technology resources and tools
currently available was exciting for me, but I had to remember to keep this excitement up when
there was pushback and negative comments from others about how impactful this change could
be.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or
student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?

This field experience will impact school improvement, faculty development, and student learning
at Pepperell Middle because I took the current vision, mission, and goals, and adapted them to
include technology tools and resources that are already available to strive toward improvement.
Through the implementation of the professional development sessions I designed and prepared,
faculty development will be directly impacted. As teachers participate in these professional
development opportunities and implement what they learn into their teaching practice, student
learning will be positively impacted. This will also impact school improvement because the
learning that is taking place is directly related to the school improvement plan and goals that are
currently in place.
