Practical individual assignment : 10%


- Type of question: Essay
Identify a person in the real life you feel is a great manager. Write a short essay
(no less than1,000 words excluding references and appendices) on why you feel
that person is a great manager and what principles he/she applies to manage others.
Give your own evaluation of this person as a manager through direct interview
and/or observation and summary of this manager's contribution to the success of
the organization.
- Marking Criteria:
Quality of content and analysis - how well you have identified the manager (5%)
Style and presentation of the essay, including logical organization, clarity of
writing, and adequacy and correctness of referencing (2%)
Depth of practical understanding, as evidenced by your conclusions and/or
recommendations (3%)
- Style and format: All assignments should be typed and double-spaced with 11-
point font, and must be submitted via Google Classroom. A deduction of 10% of
the assignment mark will be applied for each day of late submission.

2. Group assignment: 20%
Type of question: Case Presentation & Discussion
The case work consists of a written executive summary and an oral presentation
and defence of the case.
- Case Presentation and Defence (10%)
Each student is required to participate in a group oral presentation and defence of a
case analysis which is to be allocated. It is expected that the presentation is treated
as a senior manager's presentation to the Board of Directors of a firm. The
presentation will have to be brief and pertinent and should cover one to two
management issues, their analysis and recommendations for the case in question.
The size of the group should normally not exceed 5 students. The total time for
presentation is about 15-20 minutes. This will be followed by discussion and
defence of the case presentation. Assessment will be based on the quality of
content (including identification & prioritization of issues, critical analysis and
recommendations), presentation skills, verbal communication skills, and ability to
handle questions, time management and audio visual aids usage. A group mark
will be given.
- Executive Summary (10%)
For each case presentation, a written executive summary of the case analysis (no
minimum; maximum 6 pages typed, double spaced) is to be handed in to the
lecturer at least 2 day before the date of oral presentation. Assessment of the
executive summary will be based on the quality of content (including identification
& prioritization of issues, critical analysis and recommendations) and presentation
of the report. This will be a group mark.
As this is a category 2 group assignment, all team members must participate
actively and equitably in team meetings, discussion, writing of the executive
summary and presentation.
