INTRODUCTION OF SCAMPER

SCAMPER is a technique you can use to spark your creativity and help you overcome any
challenge you may be facing. In essence, SCAMPER is a general-purpose checklist with
idea-spurring questions — which is both easy to use and surprisingly powerful. In this
posting, I present a complete SCAMPER primer, along with two free creativity-boosting
resources: a downloadable reference mind map and an online tool that generates random
questions to get you out of a rut whenever you need.

SCAMPER is based on the notion that everything new is a modification of something that
already exists. Each letter in the acronym represents a different way you can play with the
characteristics of what is challenging you to trigger new ideas:

 S = Substitute
 C = Combine
 A = Adapt
 M = Modify
 P = Put to Other Uses
 E = Eliminate (or Minify)
 R = Rearrange (or Reverse)

APPLICATION OF SCAMPER

S – SUBSTITUTED : Written to oral.

 Usually we used the method of written assignment. But, for this situation, we
convert this method to the oral assignment. From this method, we can decrease
the plagiarism. Why we substituted to the oral assignment? Because we expel
the ideas to give the opinion. It looks like debate. The explanations are depends
on what are students understand about the issue, case study or the questions.
From this strategy, the students can improve their knowledge

C – COMBINED : Written assignment with various questions.

 We still use written assignment but we vary the questions for individual
assignment. Here the students will receive assignments for each chapter but les
questions and every student will receive different types of questions.
A – ADAPT : Software
 Plagiarism detection software can make a useful contribution to minimising
plagiarism. With the plagiarism detection software, students cannot arbitrarily
plagiarize any quotations from the internet source

M – MODIFY : Strategy

i) Written to oral
 The assessments focus more to knowledge, understanding, ideas and
presentation skills. For example, lecturer can make a group debate to assess the
individual’s knowledge n skills. In the debate group, student will scramble to give
their opinion or they also can protest the other student’s ideas. So, no more
plagiarism will happen.

ii) Written assignment and various questions

 It is depend on lecturers to make a change for this method. For example

calculation question, the different kind of questions will be asked in the same
chapter. For theory questions, students need to apply their thinking skills for
each concept that are related to the questions asked.

P – Put to another use. / Purpose

E - Eliminate : Eliminate the current situation.

 Lecturer must eliminate or change the common modules to the new modules of
assignment to prevent plagiarism symptoms and to decrease the percentage of
plagiarism.

R – Reverse / Rearrange.
