Arts in the Philippines refer to all the various

forms of the arts that have developed and

accumulated in the Philippines from the beginning

of civilization in the country up to the present era.

They reflect the range of artistic influences on the

country's culture, including indigenous forms of

the arts, and how these influences have honed the

country's arts. These arts are divided into two

distinct branches, namely, traditional arts[1] and

non-traditional arts.[2] Each branch is further

divided into various categories with

subcategories.
TRADITIONAL ARTS

Traditional art consisted of many art

forms that were relevant to the past.

Some of these art forms include

paintings, sculptures, printmaking,

mosaics and drawings.

Non TRADITIONAL ARTS

Non-traditional art is an art style that

breaks away from the conventionally

accepted rules for art, rules

established through art schools,

cultures, materials and methods used,

or subjects implied.

CRAFTS AND DESIGNS IN OUR SOCIETY

Art and craft help develop appreciation of

visual aesthetics and function as building

blocks for the development of children.

Art and Craft helps in all-round

development of children. It facilitates

language development by providing an

opportunity to pick up new words and

expanding their vocabulary.

Art influences society by changing

opinions, instilling values and translating

experiences across space and time. Art in

this sense is communication; it allows

people from different cultures and

different times to communicate with each

other via images, sounds and stories.

Importance in our society

Through arts and craft, children learn to

value and appreciate artifacts and images

across cultures and times. Experience in

design, art, and crafts enable them to

reflect critically on their own work and

those by others. They learn to act and

think like designers and artists, working

intelligently and creatively.
