Coober Pedy Tour Ad S1 2011
Coober Pedy Tour Ad S1 2011
TOUR (5 DAYS)
The International Student Services Unit invites you to join us on a tour which will take you
to Coober Pedy and the Flinders Ranges.
Coober Pedy, “opal capital of the world” is probably best known for its unique style of un-
derground living. The hinterland, notably the Breakaways and Moon Plain, have featured
as backdrops in films including Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
Rugged mountain ranges, spectacular gorges, sheltered creeks lined with River Red
Gums and abundant wildlife are just some of the attractions that make the Flinders
Ranges National Park one of South Australia's most popular destinations. This area is
world-renowned for its geological history, Aboriginal rock art sites, impressive fossil re-
mains and its ruins of early European settlement. Flinders Ranges National Park is located
in the Flinders Ranges between the townships of Hawker and Blinman. Its area is 95,000
ha (950 square km). Located 450 km north of Adelaide the park offers a wide range of ac-
tivities for all interests including bushwalking, camping, scenic touring, birdwatching and
Aboriginal and European cultural experiences.
We travel to Wilpena Pound where we climb Mt. Ohlssen Bagge Trail for fantastic views of the
Pound and surrounding countryside. An alternative walk is the St Marys Peak Trail, subject to good
weather conditions.
Lunch at Quorn with time to explore the township.
The afternoon will be spent hiking the magnificent Devils Peak (2.5 hours).
Overnight accommodation is dormitory style at Rawnsley Park Station.
7:00pm - Arrive in Adelaide and drop off at Flinders Uni Registry Steps.
