NARRATIVE REPORT: 3-DAY CEBU EDUCATIONAL TOUR

We had our 3 day Educational Tour at Cebu city last November 12-15 2019. It

was a very memorable experience where we were able to learn, visit electronic
related company and event had side trips to Cebu’s historical places. The 3 day

educational tour was loaded with company lecture and we got the opportunity to see

in person how their production goes.

Day 1

 EURO-CB PHILS, INC.

 MINEBEA MITSUMI

Upon our arrival at Wellcome Hotel Cebu city, we freshen up and had our buffet

breakfast at the roof deck of the hotel. Our first trip was at Euro-CB Phils,Inc in Lapu

Lapu City. It is known for it’s brand SuperTooth, they are a manufacturer of Bluetooth

speakerphones owning its own factory and handling R&D, design, moulding,

production, and packaging in-house. It was my first time to see a lot of workers in a

production area where each has specific task for assembling one of their products.

But before that we had an orientation about their company and the do’s and don’ts

during the tour. We toured around the company and one area that got my attention is

the testing room. It is a completely isolated room where there are no interference

that would interrupt that particular test that they will do.

On our next trip we head to MineBeaMitsumi, Inc in Danao City. It is

a Japanese multinational corporation and a major producer of machinery

components and electronics devices. There was quite a distance from the first

company to MineBeaMitsumi but the travel was not boring since the tour guide was

very energetic and entertaining. While on the company we were split in to two

groups. On the group that I join, we went to the production area where there is a very

strict in using PPE. We got to experience passing on I think it’s called air shower.
They are very careful on this part since that area handles sensitive things like

camera actuator.

In both company, taking pictures inside production areas are prohibited. Our

first day in Cebu is very fun yet tiring.

Day 2

Our first stop on the 2nd day was at DICT region7 Cebu city. They are

the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the

planning, development and promotion of the country's information and

communications technology (ICT) agenda in support of national development.

One lecturer also discuss about National Broadband Plan. It was a big help for us

since one of our project is to propose our own NBP. I was also able to learn

about VSAT (very small aperture terminal) ,this is used to communicate even

those from remote locations.

 Our next trip is on NTC Cebu city,they responsible for the supervision,

adjudication and control over all telecommunications services throughout the

country. Our last company trip for this day is on Teradyne. They automate two of

manufacturing’s most critical elements: repetitive manual task and electronic test.

Out of all the company that we visit, I think that they had the cleanest work area.

We got to see every equipments that they use for testing and for repairs. One

thing that I hope to see there during the tour is a sample on how to solder the

correct way.

The 2nd day was a very long day. We went to 3 companies and had our side

trip at Mactan Shrine.

Day 3

GLOBE TELECOM CEBU

Last Day in Cebu!!!

Our last company trip was in Globe Telecom in Cebu’s IT Park. The place is

very spacious with high rise buildings and a lot more. Globe’s lecture had enhanced

my understanding on our discussion on Wire & Wireless Communication. They had

visual presentation on how a single message is sent. The animations had helped on

understanding it easily rather than just verbal lectures on school. One thing that I
miss in this trip is that I thought we would tour in different parts in globe telecom

Cebu. So much for that, they also explain on how they would do their part on

National Broadband Plan and what services they would offer.

In conclusion, the experience was worthwhile. The company that we visited

are relevant and it had provided us learnings that will be helpful on our study and

even to our future endeavour. Maybe one thing that I don’t like about the tour is the

time management. Time allocated for lunch were compromise and I wasn’t able to

enjoy it especially the last day. But overall the tour was great and it ended

successfully. I am so glad that I experience it once in my college life.ECE
