OEDIPUS THE KING SOPHOCLES
1. Theme: Drama Tragedi, Sophocles' Oidipus the King is a kind of tragedy. The tragedy is
evident through the problems only faced by the main character, namely Oidipus. Sophocles
makes tragedy very well, namely conflict between figures. So, the theme raised in the story of
Oidipus the King is struggle. The main character's struggle against his destiny.

2. Charackter:
● OEDIPUS: A figure of strong conviction, stubbornness, strong self-confidence, selfish but
with a spirit of patriotism (sometimes),

●JOCASTA: Oidipus 'wife as well as Oidipus' biological mother. She is a timid, cruel and
irresponsible mother. But she is also a friendly and patient wife when dealing with her past and
present husband.

●CREON: his brother in-law, a patient character in this drama,

●TEIRESIAS: an Old Blind Prophet, this character depicts a figure who dares to reveal the
right thing even though it is bitter to hear.

●PRIEST: This figure is to convey the aspirations of the people.

3. Plot:
The plot of this drama is exposition, increasing action, climax, falling action, and condemnation
