My name is Moses Odeke.

I completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from

Makerere University. This is my passion to get further education in the field of AI and Data
Science. I intend to get this scholarship because I aspire to have a career in the field of AI and
Data Science. Through this master's degree, I can participate in a variety of emerging careers in
the growth of data science in Africa.

My passion for data science started when I watched the MIT Open Courseware videos of
Introduction to Computational Thinking and Data Science, this pushed me to take free
introduction courses in Data Science and participate in a few competitions on Data Science
platforms like Zindi. Data science has many benefits in various fields such as health, business,
education, and others. Therefore, Africa needs a lot of data scientists So this made me interested
and registered for this scholarship.

This scholarship is significant for my future career as it will lead to elevating my career having
broader exposure in this field. I have worked on a few data science projects e.g. Disaster
Response Pipeline. In this project, I applied data engineering to analyze disaster data from Figure
Eight to build a model for an API that classifies disaster messages. I created machine learning
pipeline to categorize these events so that users can send the messages to an appropriate disaster
relief agency. The project includes a web app where an emergency worker can input a new
message and get classification results in several categories. The web app will also display
visualizations of the data. This project shows off my software skills, including the ability to
create basic data pipelines and write clean, organized code!).

This scholarship is likely to provide me opportunities to harness new prospects by gaining

benefits from further education in a reputed institute. I can make positive changes in this field if I
get this scholarship that will help me to develop my Data Science qualities. This scholarship will
open new doors for me to get new experiences. I see my future as a Data Scientist.

My intention is to learn new things, I intend to get benefit from experienced Data Scientists. If
this scholarship is awarded to me, the chances of my bright future in Data Science becomes more
