Factor
• Factors are the numbers you multiply together to get another number.
For Example: 12

Factors of 12 :1, 2, 3, 4, 6,12

• The factors of an integer are all the numbers that divide exactly into it without
leaving a remainder.

EXAMPLE: Write down all the factors of 36 and 16.
Solution:

Factors of 16 :1, 2, 4, 8,16 Factors of 36:1,2,3,4,6,9,12,16,36

Prime Number
•Prime number is an integer that has only two factors, itself and one.
•The first ten prime numbers are : 2 , 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29

•2 is the smallest prime number.


• Except 2, all other prime numbers are odd. In other words, we can say that 2 is the only even
prime number.

EXAMPLE: Find the prime factors of 18 and 24.

Solution:

Prime Factors of 18: 2 and 3


Prime Factors of 24 : 2 and 3

Prime Factor
EXAMPLE: Find the prime factors of 100 and 120.
Solution:

Prime Factors of 100: 2 and 5


Prime Factors of 120: 2, 3 and 5

EXAMPLE: Write 96 and 45 as a product of its prime factors.
Solution:

Product of Prime Factors :


Product of Prime Factors : 45=3 × 3 × 5
96=2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3
Index Form:
Index Form: 45= 32 × 5
96= 25 × 3

EXAMPLE: The numbers have been written as products of their prime factors.
What are the numbers?
a.23 × 32 b.32 × 5 × 7

Solution:
a. 23 × 32 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 =72

b. 32 × 5 × 7 = 3 × 3 × 5 × 7 = 315

EXAMPLE: 360 = 2𝑎 . 3𝑏 . 5𝑐 is given, find 𝑎 + 𝑏 + 𝑐 .

Solution:

Product of Prime Factors :


360=2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5

Index Form: 360= 23 × 32 × 51


360= 23 × 32 × 51 360 = 2𝑎 . 3𝑏 . 5𝑐
𝑎 = 3, 𝑏 = 2, 𝑐 = 1
𝑎+𝑏+𝑐 =3+2+1=6

EXAMPLE: Find A, B and C numbers in given algorithm.

Solution:

1×C=7 C=7
7 × B =21 B=3
21× 2=A A=42

1.Find factors and prime factors of the numbers below.
a.32 b.48
2.Write 54 and 81 as a product of its prime factors.

3. The numbers have been written as products of their prime factors. Find these
numbers?
a.22 × 32 × 5 b.33 × 7
4.160 = 2𝑎 . 5𝑏 is given, find 𝑎 − 𝑏.
5.Find A,B and C numbers in given prime factor algorithm.
