Smog
• Smog is the one reason due to which there is increase in air pollution. It contains high amount of NO2 (Nitrogen Oxide) and
dust particles.
• The smog consists of mainly of tropospheric ozone (O3) Carbon Monoxide(CO); primary particulate matter such as pollen and
dust (PM 2.5);and secondary particulate matter such as sulphur oxides, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides (NOx)
and ammonia gas.
• The number of fine dust particles (PM 2.5) & Nitrogen oxides (NOx) contributes more towards this smog forming. This is
number has increased due to increase in vehicle movement, use of diesel generators and also increase in the construction
work.
• Smog can cause or aggravate health problems such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and other respiratory problems
as well as eye irritation and reduced resistance to colds and lung infections. The ozone in smog also inhibits plant growth and
can cause widespread damage to crops and forests.
1. Pollutants can enter and
may affect health of people.
