Experiment 3: Introduction to Pneumatic Systems
Part4:
Build a pneumatic system where two double acting cylinders should be actuated
where, when push button pressed cylinder 1 extend, when cylinder1 fully extend
cylinder2 is extend, when cylinder2 is fully extend cylinder1 is retract, when
cylinder1 is fully retract cylinder 2 is retracted.

ª The Compressor supplies the Circuit with compressed air; it enters the Air
Service Unit; which consists basically of air filter (to get rid of dust) and
pressure regulator (that keeps the air pressure constant).
ª The compressed air then enters the two Direction Valves 1 and 2 from port 1.
ª Port 3 for both valves are directly connected to the atmosphere.
ª Ports 4 and 3 are connected with the two ports of each double acting
cylinder.
ª Valve1 controls Cylinder1, and Valve2 controls Cylinder2.
ª In initial state; port 1 is connected to 2, and 3 to 4 for both valves. That
means both cylinders will be retracted.
ª When the Push Button is pressed the valve1 will operate as port 1 to 4, and 2
to 3, forces the cylinder 1 to extend.
ª As cylinder1 fully extends; limit switch1 will operate the valve2 to extend
cylinder2.
ª As cylinder2 fully extends; limit switch2 operates the valve1 to retract
cylinder1.
ª As cylinder1 fully retracts; limit switch3 operates valve2 to retract cylinder2.
