New specializations for BEng (Electrical Engineering) and BEng (Computer Engineering)

Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of devices such as vehicles, appliances, machines, and sensors that contain electronics and
actuators, embedded software and connectivity, which allow these devices to connect, interact and exchange data. IoT provides the
backbone for implementing Smart Nation developments in Singapore and worldwide, pervading the environment, cities, and factories of the
future. The explosive growth in IoT adoption will result in improvements to the quality of life, while saving the environment. In advanced
manufacturing, highly automated factories are being transformed by Industry IoT (IIoT) solutions, bringing about huge gains in productivity
and product quality.

By acquiring skills in computing hardware and software, data analytics, networking and communications, and cybersecurity, you will be
well-positioned to contribute to these transformations, which has tremendous growth in job opportunities.

What you will learn:

You will acquire expertise in IoT through

courses that cover IoT systems and
architecture, data science for IoT, and IoT
devices and sensors. You will have the
opportunity to undertake a major project in
IoT and explore IoT related topics in depth
through electives modules.
Robotics
Robotization is no longer science fiction. The surge in investments in digitization accelerates robotization in areas beyond just the traditional
manufacturing sector. Robots are now seeing rapid deployment in industrial automation, transportation, medicine, and elderly care, as well
as in the entertainment and service sectors. Artificial Intelligence has taken robots to unprecedented heights to augment humans in
handling highly complex activities. We can envisage human-robot collaboration, where humans provide creativity and enhance intelligence,
while robots take over the dangerous and repetitive tasks.

Students who undertake this specialization will have the opportunities to work on real-world robotics applications in areas such as
manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare.

What you will learn:

You will acquire specialized skills through courses that cover

robotics system design, human-robot interaction and
intelligent robotics. You will also have the opportunity to work
on a final year project in the area of robotics.
