A TALE OF RESILIENCY

To our distinguished guests, parents, graduates, teachers, school head, and to everyone who are
watching this live, a pleasant day to one of all.
Today is not an ordinary day. This is not just a simple Graduation Ceremony that we commemorate in
your academic milestone. This is the New Normal where we won’t see each other face to face as we celebrate
your achievement.
Today, marks the end and the beginning of your elementary life that brings you a roller coaster ride. A
bundle of joy for graduating amidst the struggles in our Education system brought by the pandemic during this
academic year, and waves of sadness for not celebrating it in the traditional way. Nevertheless, I am are
grateful to celebrate the success of your endeavor. Indeed, you will reap what you sow.
It was a bumpy ride at the starting line but you managed to finish the race you are on. The past months
have certainly been tough and challenging but if there’s one thing I can take away from everything, is to be
resilient.
________ years ago, there was a young girl who dreamed of becoming an educator just like her
inspiring teachers, but little did she know that the path of becoming one is quite arduous; hard to achieve and
needs a lot of hard work and effort. She was like a boat sailing in a stormy night. Her voyage wasn’t smooth
sail. Raging waves and strong wind tried to flip and drown her in the vast body of water hindering her to reach
the dock, but she manages to adjust her sail. She was able to go ashore despite the tragic storm. Her
remarkable resilience enabled her to survive and withstand the trials she encountered. The young girl who
dreamed of becoming a teacher is now a teacher, and that young girl is me.

My dear graduates, I was once like you. I have a lot of plans and dreams about my future, but let us all
remember that things may or may not turn out what we planned it to be. There may be unexpected
challenges along the way as we turn the next chapter of our life. Just like this time, none of us imagined that
Covid-19 will happen and will turn our world upside down. I shared my story to you to remind that life isn’t
easy, life will give you series of setbacks and you can’t do anything about it because it’s the reality of life. All
you have to do is to bounce back in every fall, you have to be resilient just like what Dr. Seuss said,” “When
something bad happens, you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it
strengthen you.”

You may have fears and worries on what lies for tomorrow but I have great confidence that you are
fully equipped to go to the next stage of your life and conquer the battles with the help of your loved ones and
most especially to our Creator.
Before I end my speech, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize our resilient teachers who
made this virtual graduation possible amidst the pandemic. Thank you so much for rendering your service.
Indeed, not all heroes wear capes.
To our beloved parents, thank you for your unwavering love and support for your children as well as
the school community. You played a crucial role in your child’s journey. This is not only their achievement; it is
yours as well.
Lastly, to our Almighty God who gave us the gift of life and allowed us to experience His unconditional
love. Let us acknowledge that apart from Him, we are nothing.
Class of 2020-2021, I am grateful that I was able to impart my story to you and I hope and pray that
you learned something from it. May you remember this historic day as a beginning of the new chapter in the
book. Keep on striving hard while enjoying the time of your life. You do not know what lies in your future but
always bear in mind that God has more in store for you than you can imagine.
To end my speech, let me quote the bible verse that will remind and empower each and everyone to
take heart despite the obstacles in life.
{Joshua 1:9} “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will
be with you wherever you go.”
Once again, thank you and good day! May you achieve your heart’s desire! God bless and more power!
