ANSWER

AS YOU CAN SEE ON YOUR SCREEN, OUR TOPIC TODAY IS

PRISON IS NOT AN EFFETIVE FORM OF
PUNISHMENT
DURING THE NEXT 10 TO 12 MINUTES WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THE
COMPARISON AND CONSTRAST BETWEEN FAST FOOD VS. SLOW FOOD

I HAVE ORGANIZED THIS TALK IN THE FOLLOWING WAY…..

OUTLINE

INTRODUCTION
Let´s see the meaning of FAST FOOD and SLOW FOOD.

Basically, Fast Food is mass produced food designed for speed of service.
And Slow Food is exactly the opposite. Counteract the rise of fast life and combat
people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat.

IGNORING CAUSES OF CRIME

Today the United States imprisons more people than any other nation. Its prisons are
overcrowded, contain unprecedented numbers of mentally ill and nonviolent prisoners,
and grossly overrepresent minorities. Too many prison systems still do too little to
provide meaningful programming and other forms of effective rehabilitation. Yet adverse
conditions can cause prisoners to adapt to the pains of imprisonment in ways that are
problematic while they are imprisoned and dysfunctional after they are released.
UNSTRICT PUNISHMENT STRUCTURE

At the beginnings of 1900’s, the system shifted to reduce physical violence, while
maintaining a strict punishment structure. The first penitentiaries in US had the idea that
solitary confinement, forced silent and hard labor as well as a penitence would reform
offenders and make them change their behavior

OVERCROWDING
Overcrowding is a consequence of criminal justice policy not of rising crime rates, and
undermines the ability of prison systems to meet basic human needs, such as
healthcare, food, and accommodation. It also compromises the provision and
effectiveness of rehabilitation programmes, educational and vocational training, and
recreational activities. The excessive use of pre-trial detention, and the use of prison for
minor, petty offences, are critical drivers of prison population rates.

HAMMURABI CODE
he Hammurabi Code (and eventually the Old Testament of the Christian Bible)
suggested that violation of the law should result in vengeance and retaliation from
the victim in its famous advice to take “an eye for an eye.” Later, the Romans
began to use prisons as punishment. This included slave labor, metal cages, and
chains. During the Middle Ages, Europeans imprisoned people to illustrate their
authority and signify royal power

SECONDARY EFFECTS
As a nation, we are more committed to imprisoning citizens (while simultaneously
compromising their rights) than improving our system and strengthening individual
liberties.

I’ve seen the negative effects of this system on young people—my parents both
work in education administration, and not only have they had to send kids to
juvenile detention centers, they also have to aid students in adjusting to life with
an incarcerated parent or parents. My mom works as a mental health counselor at
a school in Lewis County. At her Chehalis School District elementary school, 60% of
students are on free and reduced lunch, and many of the kids feel the effects of
incarceration in their own families.
