21 July 2021

Dear Parents / Guardian,

Our Thoughts on the River Valley High School Incident

1. We are saddened by the incident that took place at River Valley High School on
19 July 2021. As a community, we feel for the school and the families affected. In this
season of grief, Catholic High School will stand by River Valley High School. On behalf
of the school, our student leaders from the secondary section will be expressing our
support and condolences to fellow students and educators affected by this incident at
River Valley High School. In the days that follow, we will do all we can to help and to
encourage.

2. As we express our support and condolences, we remain committed to educating

our gentlemen in a safe environment. A vigilant school security system is in place,
regular security exercises are held, and school rules are clearly communicated to
ensure safety and security in the school. We will continue to be alert to safety matters
as we take care of one another as one Catholic High School brotherhood and
community.

3. We also remain committed to the well-being of our students. This morning, I have
addressed the issue with our gentlemen in the secondary section – on how to respond
to it, and on showing concern and support for one another, including our counterparts
in River Valley High School. I will similarly do so for our primary section gentlemen this
coming Friday. Our teachers will also continue to look out for gentlemen who might show
signs of distress, and we will provide help where necessary. Should you observe signs
of distress in your child while at home (e.g. sudden change of behaviours), please feel
free to reach out to us.

5. To support River Valley High School, I ask for your understanding to not
speculate about the incident and to let the authorities unravel the facts. Let us remain
empathetic towards the school and the families affected, and respect the privacy that
they need during this time.

Stay safe and take care. We will emerge from this stronger.

Yours sincerely,
