OCCUPATION HEALTH AND SAFETY

MANUAL PROGRAM

0
COMPANY HISTORY

Wisynco was formally born in 1965. Production began at the new factory, making 60

pairs of boots every hour. Sporting Jamaican-made Iron Man water boots will soon be

fishermen, casual miners, factory employees, and everyone seeking protection from the

elements. Wisynco launched a double-shift system to keep up with increasing demand, and it

extended to three shifts when it was still not enough. They accomplish this by doing 12-hour

shifts with David Kerr and Joe Mahfood to handle the three and eight-hour time. They were

born Andrew and William Mahfood.

Wisynco began to sell Iron Man water boots to Trinidad and Barbados in 1966. In

1968, the firm extended manufacturing for its second line,' Mr. Robin's rubber sneakers and

children's boots. Factory space rose to 12,000 square feet by the mid-1960s and to 20,000

square feet by the end of the decade. In 1971, they traded (swapped) their equipment with a

Haitian manufacturer of men's shoes and began making Gator Shoes. A line of men's and

children's boots, casual shoes, and dress shoes. Gator's sneakers became the most famous

items that rolled off its manufacturing line. Development persisted in the 1970s by, the end of

the decade, Wisynco needed sixty thousand square feet of production/warehouse space to

provide the Jamaican market with an expanding variety of goods.

Wisynco began manufacturing of cups and cans in 1973 at the old office of west

indies synthetics, Twickenham Park brought into use as the thermoforming hall. 1985

Wisynco began selling drinks such as Carib Beer and Shandy, Cole-Cold, and Chubby from

Trinidadian producers. 1991 Wisynco set up its Fisheries Division. The firm produced 1,2

million pounds a year using Russian trawlers and divers from Jamaica and the Dominican

Republic. In 1996 Carib Shandy, Cole Cold, and Chubby were removing from Trinidad. They

borrowed $3 million to set up a 10,000 square foot carbonated soft drink manufacturing plant.

1
BIGGA Soft Drink was born. Wisynco launched its brand of filtered artesian well water to the

market in Jamaica. In line with the Jamaican "Culcha," it was called WATA in 2002.

Wisynco Group Limited founded as a result of the merger of three companies – West Indies

Synthetics Limited, Wisynco Trading Limited, and Jamaica Soda Company Limited in 2005.

2006Wisynco started to market Coca-Cola products on a non-exclusive basis. Wisynco

partnered with Ocean Spray in 2008 to launch the groundbreaking Ocean Spray Cranberry

WATA flavored cranberry, later renamed Cranberry Flavored WATA.

2
PROJECT DISCRIPTION

A project summary is a structured written declaration of the project and the idea and

meaning to describe the goals and objectives to be accomplished. The project summary aims

to create a consistent and correct interpretation of the project in the minds of the individuals

and organizations engaged in the planning and development process.

3
OVERVIEW OF HEALTH AND SAFTEY PROGRAM

Health and safety strategy lay out the overall attitude and determination, along with

the arrangements that are placed in place to handle health and safety in the company. It's a

unique text that says who does what, when, and how?

4
PURPOSE OF HEALTH AND SAFTEY PROGRAM IN An

ORGANIZATION

The primary purpose of the protection and health initiatives is to avoid accidents,

diseases, and fatalities at work, as well as the misery and financial distress that these

incidents will cause for employees, their families, and employers. The suggested practices

use a constructive approach to managing safety and health at work. The recommended

practices recognize that finding and fixing hazards before they cause injury or illness is a far

more effective approach.

5
IMPORTANCE OF A WRITTEN HEALTH AND SAFTEY PROGRAM

Written safety programs are one of the most practical ways to communicate to your

employees, at all levels, the expectations of management as it pertains to safety. Having a

safety and health program helps to reduce injuries and illness, improves productivity, and can

reduce workers compensation costs. Ultimately, it can affect a business’ profitability. A

written safety program will identify and assign responsibilities to all employees, including

managers, supervisors, and employees. It will also help to eliminate or avoid hazards.

6
SAFTEY COMMITTEE

The responsibilities of the safety committee include the enforcement of safe work procedures,

the creation of written safety plans, the facilitation of safety instruction, the execution of

checks at the workplace, and the review of incidents. The Committee's goal is to foster a

culture of safety within the organization by delivering training to administrators, supervisors,

and staff by awareness-raising and direct training aimed at reducing injuries at the workplace

the employer must establish a committee is organized and operates in compliance with the

law, is effective, involves the widest range of employees, and provides resources so the

committee can do its work. These requirements are known as "terms of reference". Common

terms of reference include:

 Stating senior management's commitment to act on the committee's recommendations.

 Defining how long a person will serve on the committee

 Establishing how a committee member will be chosen,

7
SAFTEY EDUCATION AND TRANING PROGRAMS

Education and training are a critical strategy for educating employees and supervisors

of risks and controls at the workplace so that they can work more efficiently and be more

efficient. Another task of education and training, though, is to provide staff and

administrators with a clearer understanding of the protection and health program itself so that

they can contribute to its growth and execution. Education and preparation supplies bosses,

administrators, supervisors, and staff with the following:

• Awareness and expertise are needed to do their job safely to avoid causing risks that

could put themselves or others in danger.

• Knowledge and comprehension of occupational hazards and how to locate, report, and

monitor them.

• Specialized preparation, where their job entails specific risks.

8
BENEFITS OF HAVING A HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMME

• Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses

• Improve compliance with laws and regulations

• Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers' compensation premiums

• Engage workers

• Enhance social responsibility goals

• Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations

9
MEDICAL RECORD:

The norm describes an employee's medical record as a record concerning the health

status of an employee which is made or maintained by a physician, nurse, or other health care

personnel, or technician." Medical records include:

 Medical opinions diagnoses, progress notes, and recommendations.

 First aid records.

 Descriptions of treatments and prescriptions.

 Employee medical complaints.

EMPLOYEE EXPOSURE RECORDS

The standard defines an "employee exposure record" as a record containing any of the

following kinds of information:

 Environmental (workplace) monitoring or measuring of a toxic substance or harmful

physical agent, including personal, area, grab, wipe or other form of sampling, as well

as related collection and analytical methodologies, calculations and other background

data relevant to interpretation of the results obtained.

 Biological monitoring results which directly assess the absorption of a toxic substance

or harmful physical agent by body systems (e.g., the level of a chemical in the blood,

10
urine, breath, hair, fingernails, etc.) but not including results that assess the biological

effect of a substance or agent or which assess an employee's use of alcohol or drugs.

 Material safety data sheets. Indicating the material may pose a hazard to human

health; or in their absence, a chemical inventory or any other record which reveals

where and when used and the identity (e.g., chemical, common or trade name) of a

toxic substance or harmful physical agent.

11
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

PPE means personal protective equipment is used to guarantee your safety. Using the

PPE anytime and anywhere possible. Observe the directions for use, keep them well, and

review periodically if they still provide adequate security.

1. SAFETY OF THE HEAD

Wearing a helmet provides protection that can prevent injury to the head.

Choose a durable helmet that is suited to the working conditions.

2. PROTECT YOUR EYES

The eyes are the most dynamic and delicate areas of our bodies. When you come into

contact with light or infrared radiation? Then welding goggles or shields provide

perfect protection.

12
HEARING PROTECTION

Earplugs are very comfortable, but earmuffs are convenient on the work floor as you

can quickly put these on or take them off.

 MAINTAIN A GOOD RESPIRATION

Wearing a mask at work is no luxury, definitely not when coming into contact with

hazardous materials. 15% of the employees within the EU inhale vapours, smoke, powder or

dusk while performing a job. Dust masks offer protection against fine dust and other

dangerous particles. If the materials are truly toxic, use a full-face mask. This adheres tightly

to the face, to protect the nose and mouth against harmful pollution.

PROTECT YOUR HANDS WITH THE RIGHT GLOVES

13
Hands and fingers are often injured, so it is vital to protect them properly. Depending

on the sector you work in, you can choose from gloves for different applications.

PROTECTION FOR THE FEET

Safety shoes (type Sb, S1, S2 or S3) and boots (type S4 or S5) are the ideal solution to

protect the feet against heavy weights. An antiskid sole is useful when working in a damp

environment, definitely if you know that 16,2% of all industrial accidents are caused by

tripping or sliding. On slippery surfaces, such as snow and ice, shoe claws are recommended.

Special socks can provide extra comfort.

WEAR THE CORRECT WORK CLOTHING

Preventing accidents is crucial in a crowded workshop. That is why a good visibility

at work is a must: a high-visibility jacket and pants made of a strong fabric can help prevent

accidents. Just like the hand protection, there are versions for different applications.

14

team leads the way by drawing up a strategy, assigning and fostering accountability,

setting a good precedent, and including staff.

2. Worksite Analysis: The work site is analysed to identify both current and possible

risks.

3. Hazard Prevention and Control: Methods for the avoidance or monitoring of

current or future hazards are administered and preserved.

control them. Whenever practicable, danger management will be omitted or carried out using

the following hierarchy of controls to be effective:

1. Elimination/Substitution: eliminate or substitute the threat from the workplace with

something less dangerous.

2. Engineering Controls: reduce the exposure source by changing the workspace. This

involves improvements to the structure, facilities, ventilation systems, and procedures.

3. Administrative Controls: enforce rules or processes to improve the way work is

performed, including scheduling of work and guidelines and operating procedures.
