Final Assignment Instructions and Rubric

Department of Media Studies and Journalism


University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh
MSJ 11341, Section 1: Strategic Public Relations
Mode: Take-home Final Assignment; Set: B; Total marks 40
Time: 48 Hours (From 06.00 am 01 June 2021 to 05.00 am 03 June 2021)

Instructions:

1. The mode of the assignment is a take-home assignment. The course teacher will send the rubric with eight
topics by ULAB email to the students before 6.00 am on 01 June 2021. Students are advised to write on the
eight topics in MS word file and return the assignment within 48 (Forty-eight) hours as an attachment to the
course teacher by email by 05.00 am 03 June 2021. Email: habib.mohammad@ulab.edu.bd
2. Students are required to write each topic in their own words by reading the class-lecture-slides, reading
materials and the discussions held in the classes. 40 marks are given for these 8 topics. Each topic is worth 5
marks. Each topic should be written within 200 words to make sense of the writing.
3. Students will name their word files in this way: Rahim_Final_STPR1. They will write their name, ID,
section and question-set before starting writing in their word file. If you have issue of typing or technical
glitch, you can write the answer on your pad/khata and send the teacher the screenshots of your sheets by
email.
4. Ethical integrity: Students are advised NOT to copy-paste straight from the slides or webpage or any
other sources. They can read authentic materials from the internet/Google and take the necessary part
in a paraphrasing manner by relating to their topics and points. They can use definitions directly from
the sources by maintaining a proper way of quotation and citation (APA6), if they want to quote. In most
cases, they will write the assignment in their own words like paraphrasing manner. Students are advised to
be aware of ethical issues of their work. For example, they must NOT use paraphrasing software while
taking any sentences or paragraphs from different online or offline sources. Otherwise, this will violate
ethical integrity of the exam. The eight topics are given below:

1. Can you write with an example how “opinion leaders” can be helpful in your strategic public
relations (PR) plan? 5 Marks

2. Can you write your reflection from the discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on internal
communication in Grameen Phone? 5 Marks

3. Can you write about the four types of stakeholders and their importance in PR according to
the Grunig’s theory? 5 Marks

4. Can you write why PR professionals need to know about the agenda-setting theory? 5 Marks

5. Can you write how the concept of Pathos can be used in your strategic PR plan? 5 Marks

6. Can you discuss what media channels will be suitable in disseminating your company’s
message in a place where most people don’t use social media and don’t share your
communicative rituals? 5 Marks

7. Can you prove with an example how public relations can be a dialogical process? 5 Marks

8. Can you discuss the context in which asymmetrical model and publicity model of PR are
used? 5 Marks

Marking rubric
Marks range 4 – 5 : The answer will cover from 90% to 100% relevant aspects and examples sought in the questions
with accuracy, consistency and proper language (without any grammatical error).
Marks range 3 – 3.9 : The answer will cover the at least from 75% to 89% aspects and examples sought in the
questions with accuracy, consistency and proper language (without any grammatical error).
Marks range 2 – 2.9 : The answer will cover the at least from 60% to 74% aspects and examples sought in the
questions with minor problems in grammar, accuracy and precision.
Marks range 1 – 1.9 : The answer will cover the at least from 40% to 59% aspects and examples sought in the
questions with major problems in grammar, accuracy and precision.
