Type Refer to following table

Measures against Worn Piston Rod
No. USI-24506E
If necessary

It has been reported that there is also abnormal wear on the piston rod when excessive wear
occurs on the cylinder liner. As the reason for this phenomenon, it is presumed that temporarily
increased worn particles attaches to piston rod surface due to excessive wear on the cylinder
liner are nipped in the rings of piston rod stuffing box, and then wear on the piston rod as well
as packing rings is accelerated. As well, though wear or biased wear occurs due to aged
deterioration, this is also presumed by the reason that hard foreign particles such as
Aluminum-Silica included in combustion residues are nipped between the packing rings and
piston rod.
In particular, when fuel oil including higher Aluminum-Silica is used, it is recommended to do
wear measurement of piston rod together with inspection of cylinder liner and piston ring.
When this excessive wear or oval biased wear occurs, the function of the piston rod stuffing box
reduced and deterioration of system oil, increase of stuffing box drain, wear on packing rings,
etc. are accelerated. If such an abnormal wear occurs on the piston rod, you are recommended
to do the following measures.
Since the delivery date of undersize packing rings are approx. four (4) months because it is
build-to-order manufacturing, please place an order to us if necessary.
Undersize machining of piston rod and application of undersize packing ring
Amount of undersize is as follows.
Allowable value of wear Measures when allowable value at left is exceeded
Engine type Allowable *1
Allowable Undersize machining of piston rod,
wear
biased wear Application of undersize packing ring
(In diameter)
UEC85LSII/C
UEC75LSII
1 mm 0.5 mm 3 mm
UEC60LSII
UEC50LSII
0.8 mm 0.4 mm 2 mm

UEC60LA/LS/LSA 0.8 mm 0.4 mm 2 mm

Note : 1. When the undersize piston rod is applied, it is used together with the standard size
piston rod in one engine until all pistons are replaced with undersize piston.
Therefore, be sure to pay attention to the control of the piston rod.
2. *1 The undersize machining of piston rod shows the value from original diameter.
