Work Procedure - of Plant Buildings
Work Procedure - of Plant Buildings
IBIC/WI/C-09
1. Objective:
This work procedure narrates the guidelines for carrying out Building
work.
2. Applicability:
3. Reference Document:
4. Equipments:
5. Responsibility:
5. Instruments:
6. Work procedure:
A. Surveying :
Layout should be checked for the particular structure for correct location.
The above procedure should be done precisely with experienced surveyor by
survey instrument.
From the permanent benchmarks, temporary bench mark should be shifted to the
site for further execution.
The NGL shall be taken and maintained with respect to above TBM.
The record sheet should be submitted before proceeding.
The particular structure should be lime marked on the ground considering
adequate working space after excavation.
B. Site Clearance:
Area for construction shall be cleared of all materials including bushes, trees,
vegetation, obstructions, rubbish, electric cables, underground pipes etc.
Permission of CLIENT Engineer shall be obtaining before uprooting/removing
any tree.
C. Excavation
Type of excavators should be decided as per the site/work location and quantum
of work.
Excavation should be done randomly upto 200mm to 150mm above the required
level.
Level should be the marked accurately by means of auto level it should be 75 to
100mm above required level & rest should be dressed up manually.
It should be checked that sides of excavation should be straight & vertical
(depending upon the nature of soil).
After manual dressing again final level should be taken of bottom of structure.
All excavated material if not required for backfilling should be disposed from site
to the location as per directed.
F. Metalling
The bottom of metal should be as per specified in drg.
The quality of metal shall be as per TOS.
The Metalling shall be done in layers & each layers should be checked by level
instrument.
Voids to fill with murrum, or other approved filling material.
Each layer shall be properly compacted by compacter.
It should be checked that voids shall not be left after completion of the final level.
G. P.C.C
Quality of raw material (cement, sand, coarse aggregate, water) required shall be
as per ‘TOS’.
Grid pillars should be marked/checked for the particular structure by (Total
station/Theodolite).
The orientation of structure shall be checked by this grid pillars.
The bottom level of p.c.c should be checked.
Level shall be fixed at adequate distance to guide/maintain the level as per given
in drg.
Shuttering should be clean & oil shall be applied on it.
Dimensions should be checked as per drawing.
For volumetric proportion measuring box shall be used for Nominal Mix.
Compaction shall be done properly with manual compactors.
Curing shall be done properly.
H. Reinforcement
Reinforcement bars should confirm to ‘TOS’.
Field test should be checked such as elongation, Hardness, bend test etc. as per
directed.
Reinforcement shall not be brittle & equally not too hard.
It should be free from corrosion, oil, dirt, grease, loose rusting etc which may
destroy or reduce the bond.
BBS shall be approved as per IS 2502:1963 to proceed the work.
BBS shall be as such prepared that it reduce % of wastage.
If cages are pre-fabricated they shall be stacked properly not touching the surface
of ground.
Reinforcement shall be binded with double wire, and gauge as per TOS.
Reinforcement shall be placed on the marked orientation of the structure.
All laps shall be staggered & lap length shall be as per specification.
For columns/walls verticality of steel should be checked & spacer bars /chairs
shall be provided to avoid sacking between two layers of steel.
I. Formwork
Quality of shuttering materials (ply, battens, props, spans, nails etc) shall be as per
TOS and IS.
Shuttering oil should be approved before applying.
Shuttering and staging shall be well planned & designed as such that it can resist
load of structure & shall not deform underweight & pressure.
Shuttering should be capable to resist lateral, vibration loads, self weight.
Supports of shuttering should be rested on the hard surface & fixed properly.
Centering, leveling & lining should be checked as per working drawing.
Verticality should be maintained even if the structure at height.
Inserts, pockets, conduits shall be confirmed/checked as per drawing as fixed as
such that they may not deformed.
J. R.C.C
1st clause of (G.) P.C.C should be applied here also.
With the obtained grid pillars the layout marked on surface of p.c.c. for the
respective sturucture shall be checked.
Steel should checked as per approved BBS and shuttering should be in line &
level as per drg.
Before placing of concrete is permitted insides of formwork shall be inspected to
see that they have been cleaned & oiled.
All gaps should be sealed as such it not permit the loss of slurry from concrete.
Clear cover to reinforcement shall be as per drg.
Supports shall be properly fixed to resist the load.
Raw material required should be sufficient for the respective work.
Batching plant/mixer machine/transit mixer/concrete pump/vibrators should be in
good condition. And standby equipment should be arranged.
Manpower required should be sufficient, if required in mass concreting manpower
shall be there to work in shifts.
Set of cube moulds, slump cone shall be arranged before execution of work.
After above all checks pourcard should be signed. If any additional reinforcement
placed than drg, but required by engineer, should be very well specified in the
pourcard.
During the work a tight eye should be meant on the supports of shuttering.
If required supports should be re-tightened preventing the shape of the structure
from deformation.
Records of docate slip of concrete should be submitted after concrete if done by
batching plant.
Levels of top of concrete shall be marked as per drg with instrument.
Post checking of all this level shall be checked after completion of work to avoid
the discrepancy.
Cube test shall be checked at regularly at respective dates.
Asian cloth/Gunny bags shall be provided for proper curing.
K. Foundation Bolts
Steel supplied by the contractor shall comply all the requirements given in ‘TOS’.
All test certificates regarding the bolts, nuts, washers should be submitted.
7. Safety plan:
A. Excavation/backfilling
The position of the excavators should be properly checked.
No one should be allowed to come within the swing area of poklain.
Breaks of dumpers/excavators/tractors shall be checked time to time to prevent
accidents.
The whole area should be isolated with safety barricading tapes.
Caution boards shall be arranged wherever required.
Underground accessories (electrical cables, pipelines, water lines) shall be
confirmed.
‘NOC’ letters shall be submitted by the respective departments.
B.P.C.C/R.C.C
All labours shall follow ‘PPE’.
Shoring shall be done for stabilizing sides of excavated trenches if required.
Proper ladders shall be provided to move down to the structure.
Standing/sitting under the excavated trenches shall not be allowed.
Labours should strictly wear gum-shoes while involved in concreting.
C.Formwork/Reinforcement work.
All labours should use ‘PPE’.
Staging required should be approved/ provided.
If required lifeline/safety nets should be used to avoid causalities.
The area under progress should be barricaded avoiding the unnecessary
movement.
Loose/removed shuttering shall be make free from the pointed nails to prevent
severe injuries.
If required supports of beams/slabs shall be braced for strengthening.
PREPARED BY CHECKED BY REVIEWED BY APPROVED BY REV
D. Anti-termite treatment
All labours should use ‘PPE’.
Containers should be clearly labeled & stored carefully, as the chemical used is
poisonous & hazardous to health.
Care should be taken to avoid the skin contact with chemical.
Clothes used by the workers shall be washed thoroughly & in case of severe
contamination clothes should be removed at once.
Chemical should not get splashed in eyes. In case happened the shall be flushed
with plenty of soap & water.
Also medical attention should be sought.
