Our Classroom’s FAQs:

Q: Can I go to the bathroom?

A: Of course you can. BUT, please don’t raise your hand to ask during instruction.
Wait for an appropriate time (when someone isn’t speaking) and ask politely. Do
your business and hustle back to class. If you abuse this privilege (roaming the
hallways, disrupting other classes etc), I will take away the privilege from you.

Q: Can I turn this in late?

A: Homework is not accepted late...EVER. Why? Well, homework is intended to be
practice from what we did in class that day. Doing homework days later isn’t
really useful to you, and it certainly isn’t useful to me.

This might sound harsh, but this is how it is. Your assessments are much more
important and a much better indication of your strengths and struggles, so we
put a lot more weight on those assignments. Remember though, the homework,
classwork and so on PREPARE you for the assessment. They will only improve your
ability to do well on the assessment.

Assessments are a different story. All assessments submitted ON TIME are

eligible for *relatively* unlimited revision. So, if you turn in a paper on time, get a
grade you’re not satisfied with, you will be given the option to revise by a
deadline, no questions asked!

If your assessments are TURNED IN LATE, they will be accepted; however, you
forfeit the right to revise. This means, the grade I give is the grade you keep. End
of story. Once a unit has ended, no more late work will be taken.

Q: Did I miss anything while I was absent?

A: Nope. We sat around and talked about how much we missed you.

Okay, seriously, of course we did stuff while you were gone. Before you come talk
to me, here’s what you need to do:
1. Check Schoology. It’s dated by week and the day of the week. Check for the
date when you were absent. Do the work assigned.
2. If there were physical handouts, please see me and I will get them to you.
3. Talk to a classmate for clarification. Even though you weren’t here,
someone else was!
4. Attempt to complete the missed work - WITHOUT ASKING ME WHAT IT IS. If
you’ve attempted it and are still stuck, see me after class with the
assignment that you’ve been trying to do with your specific questions.

DO NOT, AND I REPEAT, DO NOT walk up to my desk at the start of class and say,
“I don’t get it” without checking with a classmate and making an attempt. I’m
happy to help once you’ve tried to do the assignment first!

Q: Why didn’t you respond to my email?

A: There are two reasons why. One, you didn’t follow our email etiquette
guidelines. Remember, any email outside of those guidelines will not get a
response (or will get a sassy response back with no answer to your question!).

Or two, you did follow the email etiquette guidelines, but I’m swamped and
overloaded right now. If it’s urgent, please talk to me at the end of class and we
can resolve it; otherwise, please hang tight and I’ll get to it as soon as I can!

EMAIL ETIQUETTE GUIDELINES REMINDER:

● subject line specifies the purpose of the email and is polite
● the email begins with a greeting (Dear, Good morning, etc.)
● the body of the email uses complete sentences and is polite
● the email is signed off by you (Sincerely, Have a great day, Thank you, etc.)

Q: When will I know my grade?

A: You will know your grade once all of the grades have been put in the online
gradebook. If you clicked submit, I have it. Please be patient. I try to update
grades weekly, but this is not always possible.

Q: Can I get some extra help?

A: Absolutely. The best time to check in with me is at the end of class, and we can
schedule a time that works best for both of us to meet up and get you the help
that you need! You can also email me.

Q: When is this assignment due?

A: Check Schoology. Due dates are posted.
Q: Can I get some extra credit?
A: Nope. But...you can revise assessments that you’ve done during this current
unit as long as you submitted the work on time. Check Schoology for information,
deadlines, and opportunities to do the actual, assigned work. Talk to me about
redoing/revising an assignment.

Q: Am I allowed to use my phone?

A: No. We both know that your phone is 98% distraction and 2% productive.
Check yourself (and your addiction level). Let’s figure out some positive ways to
help you curb that compulsive need to constantly check your phone. Use your
school-issued device to complete the work. If your phone becomes a distraction
for you or your peers, I will ask you to put it in a paper bag and staple it shut. You
can open the bag at the end of class.

Q: What if my device is dead?

A: Quietly and without making a scene, grab a seat near an outlet and plug in.
Once is okay (not great). However, if it becomes a regular habit, you’ll need to start
doing everything in class by hand and then completing the assignments on your
own time on your device. Charge it every night before you go to bed.

Q: What if I forgot my device?

A: You may use your phone to complete the attendance question and bellwork.
Depending on our work for the day, you will need to complete it by hand or
continue using your phone. This should be a ONE time thing. If it becomes a
habit, we will need to meet and discuss how to change this.
