1 INTRODUCTION

 HISTORY

UBL came in to existence at a very opportune time in Pakistan history in 1959.Political stability had been
restored , the planning commission has been established, the country’s first 5-year plan (1955-60) was
launched , industrialization had started in earnest and economic indicators were starting to show
improvements . I would like to mention here that under the inspirational leader ship of Mr. Aga Hasan
Abed, the founder General Manager who later assumed the office of Managing Director was also
instrumental in creating UBL’s perception as a modern, progressive bank.

The above plans can be customized further to meet your needs by attaching the following riders with the basic plan:
Additional term assurance
This rider increases the level of life cover by providing an additional amount in the range of 50% to 300% of the sum
assured / insurance cover of the main plan.
   
Life-care benefits
On the diagnosis of a critical illness, this rider provides an additional amount equal to the basic sum assured / insurance
cover. The basic policy continues after this payment.
   
Waiver of premium rider
In case the life assured is unable to continue his/her occupation due to sickness or accident, the contribution to the plan
will be made by EFU Life.
   
Family income benefit rider
In case of death of the individual during the term of this rider, a monthly income of 1% or 2% of the basic sum assured /
insurance cover is paid for the remaining term to his family.
   

How does the plan work?

Contributions to the plan are invested in an internal investment fund of EFU Life called the “EFU Managed Growth Fund” and
utilized to buy units of the fund from the market. The objective is to maximize capital growth by investing in a balanced portfolio
spread across a wide range of shares, government and other fixed interest securities and cash.

The Fund is managed by investment experts who adjust the mix of the underlying investments in light of economic conditions and
investment opportunities.

and Foreign Currency Account holders, you now do not have to wait for six months to receive a paper based
statement of your account any more. All you need to do is tell us the frequency of statements you require and we will
ensure that it reaches your inbox

 Organization Chart:

The organization design of UBL is Horizontal (which has low hierarchical level). There are different
Groups containing 10 to 12 people which are assigned different tasks to work on each group has its
own supervisor who supervise all employees in its group

United Bank Limited uses Scorecard Approach to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of HR
department. UBL follow the seven steps to measure its HR department. First UBL define its business
strategy (discussed above). Second its outline the company’s value chain activates (activities which
create value for customers and related supporting activities). Then it outlines what organizational
outcomes (goals and targets) the bank has to achieve. Then it evaluates the workforce required to
achieve the goals. After that UBL devise its HR policies and practices (what new training is
required?). Then it designs the HR scorecard and periodically evaluates the measurement system.
