QUESTION 1
DESCRIBES 4 TYPES OF LIBRARIES. (20 marks)

The 4 types of Libraries are Academic Library, Special Library, Public Library and
National Library.

1. Academic Library is a library that is attached to academic institutions like Schools,


Colleges and Universities. Their purpose is to serve the students, research scholars,
teachers and staff of the academic institution itself. Their main objective is to give
learning materials to their users and also references that are connected to the
institutional subject and studies. The Academic Libraries consist of School Libraries,
College Libraries and Universities Libraries.

2. Another types of Libraries is Special Library, this libraries speciality is to serves a


particular group of people. Special libraries usually exist in special organizations or
government firms. Their purpose is to provide specific material to the library user for the
research purposes. Their material usually consist of the information that are related to
the organization. SIRIM library is one of the example of special libraries.

3. Public Library is another type of library. Public Library is a library that is accessible to
the public at large and generally funded from public sources such as tax money. They
are usually operated by a civil servant. Public libraries serve any type of users and their
material is not limited. Their material covers a large range of references.

4. National Libraries are almost the same as public libraries. They are specially
established by the government of the country and serve as the preeminent repository of
information of the country. Unlike public libraries, National libraries usually provide
numerous rare, valuable or significant works. Usually this kind of material can only be
accessed within the library itself and rarely being allowed to be borrowed by the users.
National Libraries also have the duty to collect and preserve the literature of nations
within and outside the country.

DESCRIBE 5 WEBSITE EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR INFORMATION AGENCIES.

The website evaluation criteria for information agencies consist of authority,


purpose/audience, content/relevance, organization and design/appearance.

1. One of the evaluation criteria for information agencies is authority. In this criteria the
website must be owned by a reputable organization or expect. The website author must
have a standing in the field and provide verifiable information. The website also must
state the source of information.

2. Purpose/Audience is another evaluation criteria for information agencies. Websites in


this criteria are created for the right users. The website must state the purposes of the
website clearly and their content must fulfill the website purpose.

3. Another evaluation criteria is their content/relevance. In this criteria the website must
have authority and must provide accurate information.

4. Organization is another evaluation criteria for information agencies. The website in


this criteria must have logical organization for the user to easily navigate. The
navigation of the website should be easy to understand and also easy to survey. The
website also must provide user aids like homepage, site map and search function for
user friendly.

5. Another website evaluation criteria for information agencies is design/appearance.


The website in this criteria must provide a good first impression for their users. The
website must use appropriate colors, texture and also images.
The website must provide unique criteria and must be attractive.
