A Life Lesson
By Anonymous.

I lost my father when I was only nine years old. This was the biggest loss I have had. He was
everything to me, his only daughter. We were so close. I did not lose him to death though. I lost him in a much
harder way: I lost my father to drugs. He got addicted and started to ignore my brother and me.

One cool Summer night, my brother, a couple of our friends, and I were watching Scary Movie 3 in the
living room. Around 9:30 pm, when I looked toward the kitchen, I saw orange and yellow flames reflecting of
the door’s window. It was a mess explosion caused by his careless actions under the influence of the drugs.

After the fire was out, I saw my dad run around to the backyard and jump into the pool. I knew then
that he had gotten burned. Fie ended up confined in the hospital. After he got better, they put him in jail for a
month under drug charges. I was so mad and hurt, and suffered from severe depression. It destroyed my health
and my social life.

One day, one of my teachers stopped me in the hail to ask if I was okay. She asked if she could help
me, if l would tell her what was going on. So I did. She helped save me and lift me back up. After a while, I
started to feel and do better. She is now one of my greatest friends and mentors, and we talk daily. I could
never repay her for everything she has done for me.

Through my experiences, I learned never to do anything without thinking of how it will impact the
people around me.

Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, “Sweetheart, I know. I was standing at the

Skateboards .
Skateboards are sport equipment used for the activity ofskateboarding. A skateboard consists
of a specially designed maple wood board combined with a polyurethane coating in order to
have smoother slides and stronger durability. Most skateboards are-made with 7 plies of this
wood.
Many skateboards exist with exotic or alternative constructions. Traditional complete
skateboards consist of the deck (often with grip tape applied on top to enhance traction),
trucks (with urethane bushings), wheels (with sealed bearings), nuts, and bolts to fasten the
truck and wheel assembly to the bottom of the deck. Recently, electric skateboards have
appeared. These no longer require the propelling ofthe skateboardbymeans ofthe feet; rather
aneclectic motor propels the board, fed by an electric battery. b

The board types depend largely upon its desired function. The two common types of
skateboards are the longboard and the short board. Longboards are the type of skateboards

There is no best way to deal with pests in agriculture. Pesticides which are commonly
used may cause many problems. I think combining different management operations
is the most effective way to control pests.

Firstly, the chemicals in the pesticides may build up as residues in the environment and
in the soil which absorbs the chemicals. This reduces the quality of farm product.

Secondly, pests can gradually become resistant to pesticides. This means that newer
and stronger ones have to be developed.

Lastly, some pesticides affect non target plants and animals such as fish and bees. This
affects the ecology and environment as well.
So, understanding of ecology of an area helps a lot in pest control. Pesticides should
be chosen and applied carefully so that they don’t affect the ecological balance and
environment.

Therefore, integrated pest management is a safe and more effective option to fight pest
in agriculture and livestock.

36. The text above mainly discusses ....

A. the importance to manage pest control
B. the soil roles on pesticides effects
C. pesticide effects on the environment

Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior
can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power. It can include
verbal harassment or threat, physical assault r coercion and may be directed
repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender,
sexuality, or ability. The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a “target”.

Bullying can occur in any context in which human being interact with each other. This
includes school, church, family, the workplace, home, and neighborhoods.

Bullying is absolutely wrong for several reasons. First, nobody wants to get bullied.
Imagine if you or your family member is one who is being bullied. What do you think
willhappen to him/her? Nobody wants to live his /her life like a frightened rabbit,
right?

Second, the victims can make a revenge by telling their parents, teachers or even your
principal about what you have done to them, and surely, you will be in a very, very
bigtrouble.

Finally, bullying can result in very serious consequences. Maybe it is done for fun,
but the victims can consider it as a deep traumatic experience that can lead to depression, or even suicide.
When that happens, surely you will forever be regretful.

From the facts above, it is clear that bullying is wrong, and it onlybringsnegative impacts.
38, How may bullying be carried out?
A. People impose coercion on us to abuse us.
B. People experience traumatic experiences.

Land Reclamation
Land reclamation will definitely increase land area for a certain country. More land has been
made available for development. More buildings and infrastructure can be built.

However, much greenery has been removed in order for the land needed. Land reclamation can
be damaging to corals and marine life. Corals are usually moved to another place when land is
to be reclaimed. The corals might not be able to survive in that certain habitat, and thus die out.
In some countries, where the project is large-scale, they do not even bother to re-plant the corals
elsewhere, instead just reclaim the land on their habitat, causing them to die out immediately.
Marine life, such as fish, might not have enough food after the underwater plantations are
destroyed due to reclamation of land. This applies to the food chain. The water might also be
polluted from the soil used to reclaim land, causing the fish to die and blocking out sunlight,
depriving the underwater plants of growth. Marine habitat arc also destroyed; therefore, the
marine creatures would be forced to move to another new habitat. Some might not be able to
adapt, and thus die out. Some would just die without even finding a new habitat, as they cannot
move long distances in water.

Finally, the reasons and examples look tempting to humans, but marine life is life too! We should try to protect
itas much as possible, instead of just focusing on the advantages.

40. The purpose of the text is to...

A. show different views about land reclamation.
B. influence readers to support land reclamation.
C. persuade readers to support land reclamation.
D. explain how important land reclamation is.
E. criticize about land reclamation.

41. The reader learn from the text that the coral should be replanted because...
A. they can survive elsewhere easily.
B. they make fish have their hiding place.
C. they could block out sunlight for the fish.
D. their habitat can be used to reclaim again.
E. they could survive as the source of food for fish.

42. What do paragraphs 2 and 3 tell about?

The Jakarta-based Human Rights Working Group (HRWG) hopes the upcoming meeting

HRWG program manager Daniel Awigra said that the committee may push countries,
including Indonesia, to ‘align their laws with universal standards, as cited in the
International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and
Members of Their Families.

draft, however, still favored private recruitment agencies and lacked tight standards in the
recruitment process, he said.

The UN committee will hold a dialogue for the first time with Indonesia on September 4
