I belong to this what we call “mellenials” or the Generation Y in this modern world.
Youth is important because it is in their hands that the progress and development of the
country lies especially that these group of people are the ones to drive the economy and the
nation in the future. Our very own Dr. Jose Rizal once said that the youth is the hope of our
fatherland. Maybe I can assert this as true if only if the youth are to be provided with good
environment and will be guided educated accordingly in order to be good citizens of the
country.

Reason
Based on the report, it was discussed that there are positive and also negative issues of
today’s Filipino youth. Few of these are high self-esteem, latent spirituality, barkada, and
interest in sex and sexuality. There are actualy a lot of pressing issues that our youth is facing
today. Based on a report on 2017 by Julie Aurelio, corporal punishment, physical and
humiliating punishment; teenage pregnancy and adolescent reproductive health, sexual abuse
of children; a lack of services for children belonging to indigenous tribes; and children
affected by disasters, conflict and displacement.

Explanation
It is clearly shown that some of the Filipino values have been degraded with the
passage of time. Maybe some of the reasons is that most of the youth today are very saturated
with technology devices. Social media, as presented by the previous reporter, is also one of
the factors that affects the development of values.

Point
Amid these negative things about the youth of today, there are still values which are
preserved by Filipino youth. Based on a recent report on the truth about Filipino Youth, as
compared globally, Filipino youth are more closely knit with their families and are strongly
compelled to make an impact on other people’s lives. These and many more positive
feedbacks are still existing in today’s Filipino youth.
