Directions:  Now that you have an overview of how to critique creative nonfiction texts, it is time to
review and critique on your own. Read the text carefully and write your evaluation using the nonfiction
analysis framework. Use the format provided for your work.

NONFICTIONAL ANALYSIS FRAMEWORK

1. Give a brief summary of the text (2-3 sentences):

anything without outright saying it?
3. Select a line that reflects one of the themes you indicated above. Copy the quote here with
quotation marks.
4. Do you feel any connection to the main character or narrator’s feelings or situation?
5. Does the text engage with any topics or issues that you think are especially important for
people to know about?
6. List some positive points about the text that you believe made it an interesting or
engaging read.
7. Describe some aspects of the text that disappointed you or caused you to feel frustrated as
a reader.
8. How do the ideas in the text connect with the real world and/or your own life?
9. Describe anything you saw in this text that you would like to remember to include in your
writing.
