I am as guilty as anyone of romanticising our simpler low-tech past. But, the fact is, my smartphone
is a godsend. I constantly make use of time-saving apps. I've become totally addicted to the luxury of
clicking through for just about anything I need.

Yesterday morning, I needed to know something about a distant relative for a book I’m writing. In
the past; I had to go to the library, scroll for hours through microfilms and take notes. Now, I could
get the information within 20 minutes from a website. Then I ordered a car from Uber to take me to
teach a class. I emailed my notes to my office computer from the car, answered a dozen of emails
and read review of the restaurant I was going to with my family for dinner.

Has something gone out of life by shopping online rather than pushing a trolley around
supermarket . 41 for an hour and a half? I can avoid the pain in my back from long hours of standing
in queue with just a series of small fluttering over a keyboard. I do this at my leisure, any time of day
or night, without running into hundreds of people and being tortured by a lack of parking space.

I have always liked music. Now J don't have to go to the music shop, look through rows and rows of
shelves only to be disappointed that the album want is not there. With music streaming platforms, I
can easily press a few buttons and music fills the air.

I love the ease of being able to find things and information with that device in the palm of my hand
