Even before Magellan came in the Philippines, the inhabitants of the country were not called Filipinos until the Spaniards came and changed everything. Filipinas, was to be named for

discrimination or the inferiority of the indios as well as the Philippine-born Spaniards, everyone was just seeking for equal rights and in order for the indios to be seen as a distinct race, the only
option or the last resort they took was a revolution against Spain and after that the independence of the indios. This was then the moment of embrace since the indios acknowledged themselves as
Filipinos and have a sense of nationalism. After all, it will always come to having national consciousness, the revolution made Filipinos to be as one and fight Spain as a whole.
