10-18 BRAKES

•Tighten the reservoir mounting bolt secureiy. CAUTION


•Bleed the brake line after master cyiinder
installation (see Bleeding the Brake Line).
•Check the brake for weak braking power, brake IWt remova cup from ttw *ton
drag, and fluid leakage. remova it.
'Check the brake pedal position.
'Remove the circiip, and take off the connector
and packing.
Front Master Cylinder Disassembly Rear Cywer
'Remove the front master cylinder (see Front Master
Cylinder Removal)
'Remove the reservoir cap and diaphragm, and pour
the brake fluid into a container.
•Unscrew the locknut and pivot bolt, and remove
the brake lever.
•Push the dust cover out of place, and using circlip
pliers

tool: 57W1-143), remove the circlip.
'Remove the washer, and pull out the piston,
secondary cup, primary cup, and reWrn spring.

'Tighten the brake lever pivot bolt locknut securely.

Rear Master Cylinder Disassembly

'Slide the dust cover on the push rod out of place, 'Disassemble the front and rear master cy[inders.
and using circlip pliers (special tool: 57W1-143), •Check that there are no scratches, rust or pitting on

'Take off the piston, secondary cup, primary cup, a master cyiinder or piston shows any damage,
and retum spring. replace them-
'Inspect the primary cups and secondary cups.
