HRPD 702 Team Development Assignment
HRPD 702 Team Development Assignment
All organizations require individuals to work collaboratively with others so they can compete
successfully in the short and long term by securing a competitive advantage. Employment within an
organization is always an implicit - and often an explicit - contract to participate as a value-added member
of a team [possibly several teams].
Over the next semesters, you will work in teams, and you will experience and assess the resultant
interpersonal dynamics [social], and effectiveness / productivity [task] dimensions. As in any organization,
you do not always get to choose who you will work with. You must, therefore, understand, develop and
demonstrate skills and strategies to become a value-added team member – to enable you to effectively
work with different “types” of people, aid them in working with you, and, ultimately, together, become a
high performing, self-managed, value-added, work team, with each individual being a high
performing, value-added, member.
The purpose of this group assignment is to learn to function as a self-managed, high performance work
team. You will need to develop strategies to work with different people who have dissimilar personalities,
motives and desires.
Proper APA citations are required for any ideas that are not yours, even if they are written in your own
words.
An excellent resource for APA citations is Centennial's library website. The URL below will help you with
citation format.

I particularly like the material shown in "Examples (Centennial College Libraries)" which you will see in
the middle of the page when you follow this link.
Requirements
Part 1
1. Write a report that discusses the definition and characteristics of a high performing self-managed
work team. This will really define the characteristics that your team will be striving to meet this
semester.
How decisions are made,
the importance of team cohesiveness and
team stages should all be covered.
You should have three academic references as a minimum. I do not expect this to exceed two
pages.
2. Create a team charter or contract that is signed by all team members, indicating their
participation and agreement with the contents. A team contract worksheet, which is a working
document used to develop the final contract, should be submitted.
You must consider what you learned about yourself from Assignment 1. i.e
Review with each other your Myers Briggs, Big Five Test and Type A/B test. You need to
understand what each member is like to have a successful team.
Discuss the knowledge, skills, grade-based goals that you want to achieve, individually and as a
team.
State expectations for the team regarding communication, meeting attendance, adherence to
deadlines, and contributions to the team. Will there be consequences for non-compliance? What
will the consequences be? Will outstanding contributions be recognized and/or rewarded?
3. Develop a peer appraisal form that team members will use to evaluate each other. The team must
decide what behavioural expectations and standards are important. The performance criteria
must be specific and measurable. There should be a rating scale (for example 1 to 5) as well as
a short narrative section for qualitative comments. There should be a minimum of 6 criteria. The
Peer Evaluation form should not be more than one page long.
Part 2
(#3 above) will be completed twice.
1. Using the peer appraisal form, evaluate the team as a whole (GROUP PEER EVALUATION) with
a short narrative. Complete this as a team and submit one form in the group dropbox.
2. Using the peer appraisal form, evaluate each member of the team with a short narrative.
Complete this individually and submit in the individual dropbox.
