1. Clean the parts and inspect all of the parts for wear or damage. Replace all parts that are worn or damaged. Put clean
SAE 30 oil on all parts during assembly.

2. Install bearing (99) and spiral lock ring (98) in housing (81).
3. Install rings (96) and (97) on shaft (93).
4. Put shaft (93) in position in the housing. Use Tooling (F) to install snap ring (95).
5. Put shaft (93) and housing (81) in position on the cover assembly.
6. Install gear (94) on shaft (93).
7. Install bearings (90) in gears (91).
8. Put gears (91), disc (89), and disc (92) in position in carrier (82). Install shafts (87).
Note: The rubber in pins (88) must not be damaged. If the rubber in the pins is damaged, replace the pins.
9. Align the hole in shaft (87) with the hole in the carrier. Install pin (88). Install the pin until the pin is even with the
surface of the carrier.
10. Install ring (86) on carrier (83).
11. Put carrier (83) in position in carrier (82).
12. Install rings (84) and (85) on carrier (82).
13. Put carrier (82) in position on the housing.
14. Install rings (100) and (101) on piston (79) with the lip of the rings upward, as shown. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the
rings.
15. Install piston (79) in housing (81).
16. Install gear (80).
17. If bearing (77) was removed, use a press to install bearing (77) on gear (78).
18. Use Tooling (G) to expand ring (76). Install gear (78) and bearing (77) in carrier (47).
19. Install bearing (70) and bearing (73) in gears (69) and (74).
20. Put gear (69), gear (74), and discs (68), (71), (72), and (75) in position in carrier (47). Install shafts (67).
Note: The rubber in pins (66) must not be damaged. If the rubber in the pins is damaged, replace the pins.
22. Install the thrust disc and ring (65) in position in carrier (47).
23. Compress the ring in carrier (47). Install the carrier in gear (64).
24. Install carrier (47) and the gear as an assembly.
25. Use Tooling (G) to install snap ring (63).
Note: Bottom plate of plates (62) must be turned over to allow the clutch springs to put pressure on the bottom plate at
location (X).
Note: Start with a plate, alternate discs, and plates. Continue to alternate until all the discs and the plates have been
installed.
26. Install plates (62) and discs (61).
27. Put plates (59) in position on the housing.
28. Install gear (60).
29. Install rings (102) and (103) on piston (55) with the lip of the rings upward, as shown. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the
rings.
30. Install rods (54) and springs (56). Springs (56) must be in position on the bottom plate of plates (62).
Note: The top plate of plates (58) must be installed so that the small hole in the large tabs is aligned with rods (54).
Start with a plate, alternate discs, and plates. Continue to alternate until all the discs and the plates have been installed.
31. Install discs (57) and plates (58).
32. Install piston (55) in housing (52).
33. Put housing (52) in position on plate (59).
34. Install bolts (53) to hold housing (52) in place.
35. Use Tooling (H) to install bearings (104) and (105) in shaft (48). Install bearing (104) until the bearing is 10 ± 0.05 mm
(0.39 ± 0.002 inch) below the end of the shaft. Install bearing (105) until the bearing is 21.4 ± 0.5 mm
(0.84 ± 0.02 inch) below the end of the shaft. The inside diameter of the bearings must be 41.16± 0.04 mm
(1.62 ± 0.002 inch) after installation.
36. Align the notch in the inside race of bearing (51) with the dowel in shaft (48). Install the bearing.
37. Put gear (50) in position on the shaft. Use Tool (F) to install snap ring (49).
38. Put shaft (48) in position in the planetary group.

39. Install snap ring (46) to hold the shaft and the bearing in position in carrier (47).
40. Install the bearings in gears (45).
41. Put gears (45) and discs (43) in position in carrier (37). Install shafts (42).
Note: The rubber in pins (44) must not be damaged. If the rubber is damaged, replace the pins.
43. Install ring (41).
44. Put ring (40) in position in the carrier.
45. Compress the ring in carrier (37). Install the carrier in gear (38).
46. Put the carrier and gear (38) in position on the transmission.
47. Install rings (106) and (107) on piston (33). Install the rings with the lip upward, as shown. Put clean oil on the rings.
48. Put springs (35) in position on rods (54).
Note: The top plate of plates (34) must be installed so that the small hole in the large tabs is aligned with rods (54).
Start with a plate, alternate discs, and plates. Continue to alternate until all the discs and plates have been installed.
49. Install discs (36) and plates (34).
50. Install piston (33) in housing assembly (32).
51. Put housing assembly (32) in position on the transmission.
52. Put plate (30) in position on gear (13). Install ring (31).
53. Put gear (13) in position in the transmission, as shown.
54. Put gear (28) in position on the shaft. Use Tooling (F) to install snap ring (29).
Note: Start with a disc, alternate plates, and discs. Continue to alternate until all the discs and plates have been
installed.
55. Install discs (27) and plates (26) in gear (13).
56. If carrier (24) was removed, heat the carrier to a temperature of 127°C to 166°C (260.0°F to 330.0°F) for a maximum
of 10 minutes. Install the carrier on housing (1) with the part number upward.
57. Install pin (23) to hold the carrier in place.
58. Install pin (25) until the pin extends 4.5 mm (0.177 inch) above the surface of the housing.
59. Install rings (21) and (22) on piston (18) with the lip of the rings, as shown.
60. Put piston (18), coupling (17), springs (19), and plate (20) in position in housing (1).
61. Use Tooling (E) and a press to compress the springs in housing (1). Install spiral lock ring (16) on coupling (17).
The correct method for installation of a new seal ring.
NOTICE
New seal rings must be preloaded before they are installed to prevent
them from being damaged or broken. There is a correct method to
preload new seal rings prior to installation. Place your hands on each
end of the seal ring, and pull (wind) the ends several inches past each
other or until they almost make contact. Use care to keep the ring
shaped like a circle. This will make an even bend (or ring "set") all
around the ring. When the seal ring is in the groove of the hub, the
ends must butt together lightly. Do not bend the seal ring. This does not
make an even bend all the way around the ring.
Do not attempt to use this method to preload a used seal ring. Also, do
not use this procedure for cast iron seal rings. This will cause used or
cast iron seal rings to break.
62. Install rings (14) and (15) in the carrier.
63. Install ring (12) in housing (1).
64. Install Tooling (B) in housing (1). Fasten a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B).
65. Use Tooling (D) to compress ring (12). Put housing (1) in position in gear (13). Make sure that ring (12) is in the
groove in gear (13).
66. Install ring (108) and (109) on piston (10). Put clean SAE 30 oil on the rings.
67. Install piston (10) in the housing assembly.
Note: Bottom plate of plates (9) must be installed so that the small hole in the large tab is aligned with the rods and
springs (7). Start with a plate, alternate discs, and plates. Continue to alternate until all the discs and plates have been
installed.
68. Install plates (9) and discs (8).
Note: The notch in the inside race of bearing (6) must be facing toward snap ring (5) when the bearing is installed.
69. Put bearing (6) in position in housing (3). Use Tooling (C) to install snap ring (5).
70. Align the notch in the bearing in housing (3) with the dowel in housing (1). Put housing (3) in position on the
transmission. Install bolts (4) to hold the housing in place.
71. Install Tooling (B) in housing (1). Fasten a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B).
72. Support the weight of housing (1) with a suitable lifting device. Use Tooling (A) to install snap ring (2).
73. Use Tooling (J) in the following manner.
a. Put compressed air under a pressure of 690 kPa to 1030 kPa (100.0 psi to 150.0 psi) in each of the five oil
passages.
b. If the pistons do not move, put a small amount of clean SAE 30W oil in each of the passages. Check for
movement again. If the pistons do not move, the transmission must be disassembled. The pistons and seals must
be checked.
End By:
a. Install the transmission hydraulic control valves. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Hydraulic
Control Valve - Install".
b. Connect the transmission and bevel gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission and Bevel Gears -
Connect".
