MY JOURNEY TOWARDS PREPARING FOR INDUSTRY 4.0

Introduction of Industry 4.0
Manufacturing has undergone several eras of change from the first industrial revolution
to the second and third era defined by increased automation of manufacturing process
due to the use of information technology. This goes a long way toward the current new
era of change which is Industry 4.0 where the concept of IoT is implemented so that
everything is interconnected with each other, utilization of Artificial Intelligence,
improvisation on automation, Big Data, Smart Factory, and so on.

How did your interest start to incline towards the computing technology are?
At a very young age, I was always interested in gadgets and new technology. I remember
when my parents bought me my first computer, which was windows 98. I was able to
learn how to use the internet for the first time, exploring the interwebs, setting up my
email, and work my way from that. It has picked my interest in computers back then and
till this day. So, I decided to pursue engineering in electronics so I can learn more about
computers. During my time studying, I develop a passion for developing a system,
identify the problem, and plan in solving them.

Courses/events that you have participated in/going to participate in?

I was able to attend my diploma in Electrical Engineering Instrumentation in UiTM
Dungun at that time. Back during my diploma day, I receive a lot of exposure to process
control and programming. They would teach us about circuit theories, logic gate,
sensors/transducer, actuators and process control and how various applications has
been introduced in the industries. I even participate in a project for the first time in a car
accident prevention seminar using an Arduino. This has helped me improve on my
circuit design and C/C++ programming. Continuing forward on my degree, I have
further my studies in engineering in electronics. At this point, the utilization and
implementation of Industry 4.0 have been introduced to where the concept of IoT and
Artificial Intelligence is recognized in a lot of different industries. On that note, I was
able to develop my first IoT implemented system using Raspberry Pi to program using
Python to monitor and regulate temperature as well as humidity on a greenhouse in
real-time with an App. During the last year of my degree, I was able to compete in a
program called IMDC which know as Innovate Malaysia Design Challenge held in
Cyberjaya under the MATLAB Panel. My team was designing A 4-DOF Robotic Arm for
Industrial pick and place robots since a lot more industries are implementing robots in
the field of Artificial Intelligence.

What have you learned so far?

Having new technologies such as the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data
benefits greatly in the industry. Hence, having the ability/skills and the right knowledge

to implement these technologies is important. Therefore, we should be prepared

beforehand for this kind of new technology before entering the industries.
