ACTIVITY NO.1
Question no.1: What is green Architecture?
According to the United Architects of the Philippines, Green architecture is a sustainable
method of green building design: it is design and construction with the environment in mind. Green
architects generally work with the key concepts of creating an energy efficient, environmentally friendly
house.
While a Chicago Architect Nicholas Van Antwerp, defined green architecture as a philosophy
that advocates for building with the environment in mind by using sustainable sources of energy,
designing efficiently to reduce energy use, and updating existing buildings with new technology.
Question no.2: What is Resilient Architecture?
Based from the article from the Resilient Design Institute (a national nonprofit organization),
resilient Architecture is the intentional design of buildings, landscapes, communities, and regions in
order to respond to natural and manmade disasters and disturbances—as well as long-term changes
resulting from climate change—including sea level rise, increased frequency of heat waves, and regional
drought.
Question no.3: What is Sustainable Architecture?
As stated by Barker (an integrated property consultancy), when applying the word sustainable to
architecture, it then refers to design that creates healthy living environments while aiming to minimize
negative environmental impacts, energy consumption, and use of human resources.
Sustainable Architecture is reflected in a building’s materials, construction methods, resource
use and design in general. The design must also facilitate sustainable operation during the building life
cycle, including its ultimate disposal. While it has to be functional and aesthetically superior, the space
has to be constructed with the mind-set of achieving long-term energy and resource efficiency.
