Spring 2021 E-Track Program Course Registration

Important Dates for Course Registration


Registration Period: March 26 (Fri) 9:00 AM to March 30 (Tue) 6:00 PM (Japan Time)
Add & Drop Period: April 2 (Fri) 9:00AM to April 8 (Thu) 6:00 PM

Be sure to register for your desired courses during the course registration period. In order to
attend the first class on April 2 or 5, you must complete your course registration during the
registration period, otherwise you will not be able to access the course(s) on Moodle and/or
Zoom. This means you will not be able to attend the first day of the online/on-demand class.

*Capped Courses and Result of the Selection


Following the school’s social distancing policy, all courses have a cap on the maximum number of
students. The maximum number of students in each course is specified in the course schedule. If the
number of registered students exceeds the cap, the selection will take place, and the result will be
announced on POTI on April 1st. Please access POTI’s “My Page” under “Class Schedule” to see if you
are chosen. If chosen, the course will appear on your My Page. If not, unfortunately, you were not
chosen. If a course has extra space after selection, we will make an announcement on POTI after
10:00AM on April 1st (Wed).
NOTE Class Drop Restrictions!
During the Add/Drop period, it is possible to drop courses added during the course
registration period only, EXCEPT FOR the following courses;
【COURSES NOT POSSIBLE TO DROP】
- Required courses (Elementary Japanese1A/AB, Academic Literacy, Fundamentals of
Mathematics, Introduction to International Relations)
- You may add courses which have extra space, which is on a first-come-first-serve basis, but
it is NOT possible to drop the courses added during the Add/Drop period.

**Time Restrictions (During Add & Drop Period)


1. Please note that POTI is not available between 2:00AM and 5:00AM (Japan Time) every day due
to the system maintenance.
2. Additionally, the POTI course registration system will NOT be available during the period below;
Friday, April 2 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Japan Time)
Monday, April 5 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Japan Time)
Tuesday, April 6 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Japan Time)
Wednesday, April 7 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Japan Time)
3. Please note that there is some time lag between POTI and Moodle. Please see below for details of
when your registered courses appear on Moodle after your course registration on POTI.
-If you add courses by 6:00PM, April 2, you will be able to access the Moodle courses on April 5.
-If you add courses between 7:00 PM, April 2 and 6:00 PM April 5, you will be able to access the
Moodle courses on April 6.
-If you add courses by 6:00pm of each day from April 5 to 8, you will be able to access the Moodle
courses ONE DAY AFTER you registered.
-If you add courses after 7:00 PM till 11:59PM of each day from April 5 to 7, you will be able to
access the Moodle courses TWO DAYS AFTER you registered.

E-Track Course Schedule and Course List UPDATED

Class Format
As many in-person classes as possible will resume in Spring 2021. The class format will differ
depending on the course.
There are FOUR (4) class format types:
(1) In-person Class Only
- Qualitative Research Methods
- Career Experience Practicum

(2) A Combination of In-person Class and Online Class


- Elementary Japanese 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B
(Eight classes are held per week, four of which are held in person and the other four classes are
conducted online weekly.)

(3) A Combination of Online Class and On-demand Class


- Web and Mobile Technology
- Research Methods & Data Analysis in Business
- Social Media and Business
(Each week one class is held online and one class is held via on-demand.)

(4) A Combination of In-person Class and On-demand Class


-All Courses not listed in (1), (2) and (3) mentioned above.
(Each week one class is held in-person and one class is held via on-demand.)

However, as there is a possibility that some students/professors will not be able to enter Japan by the
start of the spring semester due to border closures, therefore, as a temporary measure for the time
being, all in-person classes except for Career Experience Practicum and Topics in Japan Studies A
Contemporary Social Issues in Japan will be conducted partially or fully online for
students/professors who will arrive to Japan late due to unavoidable and legitimate reasons, such as
due to border closures, delay in visa issuance and/or travel restrictions.
There are SIX (6) different scenarios depending on courses below;
(A) Switch in-person classes to online until all registered students can attend in-person
classes
- All optional Japanese language courses

(B) Switch in-person classes to online during the month of April only and return to in-person
starting in May
- IT Literacy
Note: Students who cannot attend in-person classes from May cannot register for IT Literacy.

(C) Switch in-person classes to online during the month of April only and switch to a hybrid
of in-person and online from May
- All Academic Literacy courses
- Undergraduate Thesis Writing Seminar

(D) Switch in-person classes to online until the end of Quarter 1 (May 26) and return to in-
person from Quarter 2 (May 27)
- Elementary Japanese 1A/1B

(E) Switch in-person classes to online until professors can offer in-person classes
- Prof. Honig Or’s Principles of Political Science
- International Relations of the Middle East
- Non-state Actors and Political Violence (Seminar)
- Introduction to AI & Intelligent Product Development
- AI & Machine Learning for Decision Making
Note: These courses will be switched to (F) below after professors return to campus.

(F) Live-streaming in-person classes on Zoom (A hybrid of in-person and online) until all
registered students can attend in-person classes
- Other courses not listed in (A), (B), (C), (D) & (E) mentioned above.
Note: Students who are in Japan must attend in-person classes on campus.

Courses placed by Placement Test


Please see below (*) for the courses which you DO NOT need to register for by yourself on POTI. You
will be placed in those courses based on the results of the Placement Tests. The courses will appear
in POTI’s “My Page” on March 26. Please check POTI to see which classes you are placed in on March
26.

Courses with Special Registration


Undergraduate Thesis Writing Seminar
If you wish to register for Undergraduate Thesis Writing Seminar, you are required to submit the
designated application form. Please see the March 15 instruction posted on POTI.
Fundamentals of Mathematics / Introduction to International Relations
For IR students who wish to register for Fundamentals of Mathematics or for BE/DBI students
who wish to register for Introduction to International Relations, please contact the EAAO during
the course registration period.
NOTE: (1) It is not possible to register for the courses on POTI.
(2) New students are automatically placed in these courses, so they do not need do
anything.

Important Notice regarding Changes to the E-Track Curriculum


There are some changes in the IR/BE/DBI course curriculum as follows;
 There are some courses in which the titles changed. Please check the course list. Students who
already took the course(s) in the past cannot take the renamed course(s).
 There are some courses which the course numbers changed. Please check the course list. The
course number of the course you already took does not change.
 E-Track Internship course activities are only available during winter/spring vacation.

Registration for J-Track Courses


If you wish to register for J-Track courses, please follow the instructions below.
【Requirements】 - Registration Request Form with Instructor’s approval
- JLPT N2 or above, or equivalent level of Japanese

【How to Register】
(1) Fill out the Registration Request form.
(2) In the registration form, you are required to receive an instructor’s approval. Thus, contact the
course instructor(s) in advance or attend the first class to ask for his/her approval. Get his/her
signature on the form.

(3) Submit the registration form with a copy of your JLPT Certificate to the EAAO by email (see
below) or at the office counter by 6:00pm on April 7 (Japan Time)

【Important Note】
 If you want to access the first on-demand class on Moodle and receive more information
about the course, please contact the EAAO.
 Once we confirm your registration form, we will send you a confirmation e-mail. On the day
we send the confirmation e-mail, we will register you. You will be able to access the course
on Moodle one day after your registration was confirmed.
