CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL SCIENCE

1. Explain the relationship of the branches of science to the study of social

science.

The relationship of the branches of science to the study of social science has
important role not just in such specific terms but also in the past, present, and future
of the human kind, and other historical things. Social science, any branch of
academic study or science that deals with human behavior in its social and cultural
aspects. Usually included within the social sciences are cultural (or social)
anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, and economics. The discipline
of historiography is regarded by many as a social science, and certain areas of
historical study are almost indistinguishable from work done in the social sciences.
Most historians, however, consider history as one of the humanities. While the
Science (also known as pure, natural, or physical science) and social science are
two types of science that deal with the same scientific model and the components of
their own respective general laws. Science is more concerned with studying nature,
while social science is concerned with human behavior and societies.
2. Discuss how the principle of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle leads to the
development social science.

Plato, and Aristotle are the only three worth focusing on during this period.
Plato studied ethics, virtue, justice, and other ideas relating to human behavior.
Socrates of Athens is among the most famous figures in world history for his
contributions to the development of ancient Greek philosophy which provided the
foundation for all of Western Philosophy. He is, in fact, known as the "Father of
Western Philosophy" for this reason. Aristotle There, he honed his talents of
understanding the world. In his understanding of the world, he wrote his theory of the
universals–which I find to be extremely intriguing. The problem of the universals is
the question of whether properties exist, and if so, what exactly are they.
Principle of Socrates
Care for your soul is the most crucial responsibility in life because of her belief
that the soul of individual is the true being of who a person really is.
Knowledge is necessary to become virtuous and virtue is necessary to attain
happiness. Socrates believe that the path towards self-knowledge was to obtain
knowledge of what is good and what is evil from it.
All evils acts are committed out of ignorance means an individual who
commits an evil act is one who is ignorant of the fact that virtue alone is the one true
good.
Committing injustice far worse than suffering an injustice means that it is
better to suffer an injustice that to commit an injustice where when we commit an
injustice we are harming our own soul which is our true self.
Principle of Plato
Plato made great contribution in the development of social sciences. Plato’s
insight’s on the role of intellectual in society; the role of government in promoting
excellence or virtue, the educative function of the state, gender relations, property
relations, the role of religion in the state and these are but a few of modern issues
regarding which Plato’s works continue to inspire creative approaches. Because of
his depth of insight and his creative approach to the perennial issues of human
beings in their social and political dimensions beyond temporal and cultural
consideration, Plato and his legacy will continue be debated among scholars in all of
the modern social sciences into the distant future. Plato clearly intended as an
inspiration of what human beings mean when they appeal to justice and to good rule
or government, examines the cardinal virtues respect to the individual person.
Ultimately, a just society for Plato is a society of just persons. And individuals or just
according to their capacity with the respect to each of the cardinal virtues. The
human consciousness develops well or poorly according to a progression from
imagination, to belief, to understanding, to reason base of consciousness of the
good.
Principle of Aristotle
Aristotle focuses on what we call politike, or the science of the police. Politeke
is clearly the equivalent of social science with the respect to the subject matter it
embraces; Aristotle uses the term throughout the politics and the ethics to refer to
the consideration of topic which we would assign to political science, anthropology,
sociology, and psychology, and economics. It may, however, be doubt whether the
method or approach to the study of human things suggested by politike is an anyway
equivalent to the current implication of social science, Aritotle, was indeed assigns,
and even the kind of natural science.
CHAPTER II

THE CONCEPT OF PEACE

1. Illustrate the evolution of peace processing basing to its historical sketches.

History is felt, invoked and insisted on in conflicts and peace talks in

numerous ways. In identity and territorially centered conflicts, it can be a crucial
factor and a formidable obstacle to their resolution. Positions taken by the parties are
based on readings of history and used to demonstrate or deny the legitimacy of
competing claims. Peace processes are defined as the series of actions that lead up
to the resolution of conflict and the negotiation and signing of a peace accord, as
well as the series of actions that implement and consolidate the agreement
afterward.

2. Discuss the importance of the government’s role in addressing social

problem.

Governments do what they can. They prohibit or control the sale and
consumption of liquor in public places. Managing several other personal problems
has become complicated because the action in question is harmless and at times is
considered good in the short term. The truth is that the government cannot do much
to solve problems caused by the individual in his personal space. The only person
who can do anything about solving these type of problems is the individual himself.
The government’s role in promoting and supporting social responsibility initiatives
and campaigns. Although social responsibility is more commonly associated with the
corporate business sector, it is very important to pay attention to key stakeholders
like federal, state, and local governments.
Moreover, it is undeniable that the government has important role especially
in addressing in social problem for a reason also that it is their responsibility to insure
peace living and have peace country to their country, and no matter what happened
it is the government duties to protect their countrymen from any social problem, and
to provide a source and essence of well-being and happiness. Just like what we
have experienced today, the war against COVID 19 pandemic where almost
everything that matters in our lives is affected such as our living, livelihood, social
life, economy and etc.
CHAPTER III

THE CONCEPT OF CONFLICT AND WAR

1. Narrate the different violent conflicts engaged by the Muslims in the

different municipalities of Mindanao.

The Mindanao conflict is fundamentally triggered more by the centralism of

the state and inadequate democratic space that limits the self-governing power of
the minorities, particularly the Muslims, in the southern Philippines. At the heart of the
conflict in Mindanao lies deep-rooted prejudices against a minority Muslim and
indigenous population.
Poverty and conflict are widely understood to be closely interconnected; with
poverty making countries more prone to civil war, and armed conflict weakening
governance and economic performance, thus increasing the risk of conflict relapse.
social welfare is depleted as goods and services are diverted to the war effort; rural
infrastructure is destroyed in contested territory; and justice and security provision
retracts into urban areas and elite enclaves.

2. Explain why these conflicts droved these communities thee poverty.

Culture influences development from the moment we're born, making an

impact on us as we grow. For instance, culture can affect how children build values,
language, belief systems, and an understanding of themselves as individuals and as
members of society. Cultural barriers are challenges to cross-cultural communication
within an organization. When people from different cultures who might speak
different languages, have different cultural beliefs or use different gestures and
symbols to communicate, their cultural differences might become barriers to
workplace success.
Despite these successes, these conflict droved these communities to poverty
because of its damage. And lack of resources, along with the corruption, means the
local government structures are weak, as result, it remains the poorest region in the
Philippines, and because years battles have left affected communities in dire
conditions struggling to rebuild destroyed homes and reeling from the loss of lives.
CHAPTER IV

THE CONCEPT OF DEVELOPMENT

1. Explain how culture could be a barriers of development.

Culture means to build on, to cultivate, and to foster. It is a set of accepted

behavior patterns, values, assumptions, and shared experiences, and also defines a
social in structure, decision making practices and communication styles. In addition,
culture is the beliefs, values, behavior and material objects that together form a
people’s way of life. A totality of our shared language, knowledge, and everything
and include as a tradition we inherent and pass on the next generation enable to
determine how we view the world around us. The culture could be a barriers of the
development through other ancestor’s leader in some tribe would not let the needs of
society touch or destroy their culture and preserved there for a long period of time,
and or they cultivate their culture because they thought that as their wealth and they
value their culture the most, that’s why there are still tribe around the world in recent
time who are doing such things. Also, through their thinking to become most unique
tribe and pass it to other generation.
CHAPTER V

PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

1. Evaluate the condition of Mindanao at present under the leadership Pres.

Duterte a fellow Mindanawan.

Going beyond a focus on peace in Mindanao is the vow of President-elect

Duterte to pursue the shift from a unitary to a federal state structure. Presumptive
speaker of the house Alvarez said the BBL is moot already because of the thrust
toward federalism (the congressman later clarified that the government can pursue
the BBL alongside the move toward federalism) this elicited some outrage and
perplexity on the part of MILF because candidate Duterte had promised to pass the
BBL.

President Duterte actions have certainly taken on a singular character. Analysts

unfamiliar with the politics of Mindanao may wish to cast the President as odd. No
doubt he is out of the ordinary, but much of his behavior is in keeping with the politics
of his home island when violence is commonplace. In addition to violence,
allegiances are familial and jealousy protected. An offense against one extended
family clan a sure recipe for conflict escalation. Yet in the final analysis Duterte is a
product of his environment in which respect for rule o9f law and human rights runs a
distant second to the rule of violence and power.

2. Illustrate the role of the Lumads and IPs to achieve sustainable

development.

Lumad – Mindanao’s main objective self-determined for their member- tribes

or put, more concretely, self-governance within their ancestral domain in accordance
with their culture and customary law. They showed a high degree of creativity,
usually employed to embellish utilization objects, such as bowls, baskets, clothing,
weapons, spoon. They conserving unique biodiversity relies on the knowledge,
innovations, and practices of indigenous and local communities who live in direct
contact with nature.

CHAPTER VI

THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY

1. What are the problems faced by the indigenous people in Mindanao.

Indigenous Peoples suffer higher rates of poverty, homelessness and

malnutrition. They have lower levels of literacy and less access to health services,
further contributing to their poverty. Poorer health, Lower levels of education,
Inadequate housing and crowded living conditions, Lower income levels, Higher
death rate among children and youth due unintentional injuries, Higher rates of
suicide,

2. What are the reasons why these people more the most vulnerable
community when conflict occur.

The reason why indigenous people more the most vulnerable community
when conflict occur because, Indigenous peoples are often marginalized and face
discrimination in countries’ legal systems, leaving them even more vulnerable to
violence and abuse. Indigenous human rights defenders who speak out face
intimidation and violence, often supported by the state. The health situation of
indigenous peoples due to infectious-contagious diseases is already serious due to
its high prevalence and the very poor health service.

3. What is your opinion about the BOL? Does this law can promise lasting
peace in Mindanao.

The purpose of this Basic Law is to establish a political entity, provide for its
basic structure of government in recognition of the justness and legitimacy of the
cause of the Bangsamoro people and their aspiration to chart their political future
through a democratic process that will secure their identity and Bangsamoro people
will also have the right of self-determination, which is basically their collective right to
achieve their own political, cultural and economic privilege.Peace in Mindanao
remains elusive. Past administrations have conducted peace negotiations with rebel
groups such as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National
Liberation Front (MNLF) who turns to violence and demanded for a separate state,
but none have succeeded.
