DRAGON TROUBLE

Dragon Trouble is a children's play about a mischievous fairy who creates problems in a
peaceful kingdom just because she is bored. The dragons fight with the princesses and knights
until some magicians come along and help restore peace to the kingdom.

(Jester appears on the stage and he is playing a happy tune on his flute (this can be pre-recorded
and he can pantomime playing). He can appear inside a cutout of a giant storybook.)

NARRATOR/JESTER:
Once upon a time, there were three families.  There was a family of princesses...
(Princesses appear at one end of the stage.)
NARRATOR/JESTER (Cont.) ...a family of knights...
(Knights appear on another part of the stage.)
NARRATOR/JESTER (Cont.) ...and a family of dragons.  
(Dragons appear.)
NARRATOR/JESTER (Cont.)But then some fairies moved in and created all sorts of trouble. 
Susie Sally Sassafras was the worst of all.

SUSIE: Peace is boring!!

(Other fairies nod)
SUSIE (CONT.) Let's make things a little more interesting.
(Susie and little fairy fly up to a little dragon who is playing with something pretty.)
LITTLE DRAGON: I love pretty things.
SUSIE: Those things are ok.  But do you know who has prettier things than that?
LITTLE DRAGON: Who?
SUSIE: The princesses.
(Susie throws fairy dust on the Little Dragon who sneezes.)
LITTLE DRAGON: Ah-chew!
SUSIE: That fairy dust will put you under my spell.   You will go to the castle and take the pretty
things from the princesses. (The little fairy laughs) Little Dragon SNEAKS inside CASTLE
NARRATOR/JESTER: The little dragon sneaked into the caste and took one of the princess's
pretty things. 
LITTLE DRAGON: I love it!
PRINCESS LILY: He took my pretty thing!  Waaa!
LITTLE DRAGON:Ha! Ha!
(The little dragon sneaks away.  The princesses cry. Susie throws fairy dust on them.)
SUSIE: You will take back your pretty thing and take the dragon's treasure.
(Princess Rose sneezes and then looks mad.)
PRINCESS ROSE: Aw-chew!  Don't worry.  We'll get your pretty thing back.
(Princesses skip up to a cave.)
PRINCESS ROSE: Okay, now you go inside and get the pretty thing back. 
PRINCESS LILY: Okay.
PRINCESS ROSE: Wait. And take all their other treasure too.
PRINCESS LILY: Nooooo!
PRINCESS ROSE: I dare you.
PRINCESS LILY: No!! I can’t do that! Our father will be furious if he knows!! No!! I will not do it.
PRINCESS ROSE: I double dare you. (while smiling)
PRINCESS LILY: I said No!!
PRINCESS ROSE: I triple dragon dare you. (Princesses look shocked)  
NARRATOR/JESTER: There's no way she could resist a triple dragon dare.
PRINCESS LILY: Fine. But I get half the treasure.
PRINCESS ROSE: Deal!!
(Princess Lily goes in and sneaks up to dragon.  Dragons stir.  She tries not to be afraid.  She finds
something pretty, grabs it and comes out.)
PRINCESS ROSE (Cont.) I love it! (Dragons hear this and roar)
PRINCESS ROSE (CONT.) Oooops.
(Princesses run and hide behind a little cardboard/paper castle.  Dragons tear up their castle
during the following.  Knights try fighting dragons.  Princesses take more treasure.)

NARRATOR/JESTER
The dragons were mad at the princesses and burned down their castle.  The princesses took
more treasure so they could afford to buy another castle.  The dragons got mad and burned
that castle too.  It never seemed to end.
PRINCESS ROSE: Will this ever end?
KING TORTOISE: We'll help you.

NARRATOR/JESTER
The knights of the round turtle!  There was their leader King Tortoise who slowed everyone in
their tracks.
(King Tortoise appears in grand fashion.)
NARRATOR/JESTER: And Nighty Knight who put his enemies to sleep.
(Nighty Knight swings his sword and puts himself to sleep.)
NARRATOR/JESTER: The Knight of Fire who holds the flaming sword forged in the fire of
Mount Wannahockaloogie. (Fire knight pulls out a glowing sword) And finally there was Sir
Hook... the knight who lost his hand to a shark on a dare...
(Cut to Sir Hook and another knight in a boat.)
KNIGHT 3: I dare you to stick your hand in that shark's mouth.
HOOK:Okay.
(Hook is reaching down and loses his hand.  All the knights stand together)
NARRATOR/JESTER : And some other knights who will be named at later time.
(These knights wave.) All the knights were quite angry about the dragons destroying the castles.
KING TORTOISE: We are quite angry. (Other knights shout in agreement.)
(Knights will shout yeahhhh!!!)
HOOK: But how can we stop the dragons?
KNIGHT 2: We must stab them in the foot with the horn of a jackalope.
KNIGHT 3: Where are we going to find a jackalope?

KING TORTOISE: Follow me.  I know where the foul beasts reside.
(A jackalope comes out near a trail.  Knights charge.  Jackalope looks at them.  Then princesses
appear the other way skipping happily along.  Jackalope turns to look at them.  Knights charge,
jackalope looks, princesses skip.  The knights reach the jackalope and are about the do it in when
the princesses jump in the way.)
PRINCESS ROSE: Stop!
FIRE KNIGHT: What?
PRINCESS ROSE: You can't destroy this poor little innocent creature.
KNIGHT 2: Why not?
PRINCESS ROSE: Because he is soooo cuuuuute.
NIGHTY KNIGHT: Stand aside.
PRINCESS LILY: Never!  We are princesses and you knights must do whatever we say, right?
KNIGHT 1: Well... I guess so.
PRINCESS LILY: We command you to be friends with this little creature.
FIRE KNIGHT: What?! We came here to stop these creatures!
PRINCESS LILY: Swear it!
KNIGHT 2: Fine, fine. Whatever. 
All KNIGHTS: We swear it.
PRINCESS ROSE: Good.  Farewell little rabbit... thing.
(Princesses skip away.  Knights all grumble.)
NIGHTY KNIGHT: He is kind of cute.
NARRATOR/JESTER: One knight reaches out to the jackalopes but it bites his finger.  Knights
look at each other.  They yell and chase the jackalopes.
KNIGHT 1: Get him!
All KNIGHTS: Ahhhh!
(Knights run after jackalope. )
PRINCESS ROSE: Waitttttt!
FIRE KNIGHT: Whatttt?
PRINCESS ROSE: There must be another way.
KNIGHT 2: No... nothing else can defeat the dragons.
PRINCESS LILY: Yes, there is another way.
PRINCESS ROSE: We need help.  We need magic.
(Magicians appear)

MAGICIAN 1: Did someone say... magic!

PRINCESS LILY: Who are you?
MAGICIAN 2: We are magicians.
(Magician reaches behind her ear and produces a coin.  Knights clap excitedly.)
KNIGHT 3: Amazing!!
PRINCESS ROSE: Big deal
MAGICIAN 1: How about this?
(Magician 2 pulls out a deck of cards)

MAGICIAN 2: Pick a card. Any card.

(Princess Rose rolls her eyes.  A knight goes up and picks one.)
MAGICIAN 2 (CONT.) Is that the... (names card the knight is holding).
KNIGHT 1: It is!
(Knights all clap happily.)
PRINCESS ROSE: Give me a break.  That's not magic.
MAGICIAN 1: How about this?
(Magician takes his/her hat and waves hand over it.)

MAGICIAN 3: Abra cadabra.

(Magician 3 pulls a jackalope from the hat.)
KNIGHT 2: Oh, no.
NIGHTY KNIGHT: It's... it's...
All KNIGHTS: A jackalope!
(Jackalope takes off.  The knights chase after jackalope.)
ALL NIGHTS KNIGHT (CONT.) Get him! 
(Ahhhh! Princess Rose sighs.)
PRINCESS ROSE: Oh, great!!
(Princess Lily starts crying.)
PRINCESS LILY: Now we don't have any knights to defeat the dragons.
(Princess Rose breaks down crying too and they hug.)

MAGICIAN 1: Dragons eh?  I have the thing you need. 

PRINCESS ROSE: You do?
MAGICIAN 2: We know their weakness.
PRINCESS LILY: You do?
(Magician 3 makes a block of cheese appear.)
MAGICIAN 3: Cheese!
PRINCESS ROSE: You've got to be kidding.
MAGICIAN: All dragons are lactose intolerant.
PRINCESS LILY:: ahhhh I see.
(Princess Rose and Magician appear and sneak up with Tacos.  Rose looks at the block of cheese.)
PRINCESS LILY: We need a knife.
(Knights enter.)

MAGICIAN 1: Will someone hurry up and cut the cheese?

NARRATOR/JESTER: Knights cut the cheese with their swords.  Princess Rose puts it on the
tacos. They put it in front of the stage. More dragon roaring. They hide.
DRAGON KING: Somebody brought us tacos.
LITTLE DRAGON: wooow!!Yum, yum!
DRAGON KING: Wait!  What's this?  Cheese! 
NARRATOR/JESTER: Dragons choke and fall down.  A couple of knights go up and look at the
dragons on the ground.
KNIGHT 3: Did we kill them?
DRAGON KING: No, we just have bad tummy ache.
LITTLE DRAGON: Oooowwwwww! Holding his tummy..
MAGICIAN 1: We'll give you the magic drink if you promise that you’ll never take another
pretty thing.
ALL DRAGONS: We promise.
(Magician pulls out can of ginger ale or sprite)
MAGICIAN 2: Let me shake it up for you.  
MAGICIAN 1: Wait.  What is this on the baby dragon?  
MAGICIAN 2: Fairy dust!
MAGICIAN 1: It's on Princess Rose too!
MAGICIAN 2: hmmmm….So the fairies are behind all the problems.
(Fairies appear)
SUSIE: That's right.  What are you going to do about it?
MAGICIAN 1: Magic box. Do your trick.
(A box slides on to stage and fairies are pulled inside it. (or it could be a pantomimed box and
magicians could make it shrink) Fairies are captured inside box.  They shout and pout.)
SUSIE: Let us out!
MAGICIAN 2: Only if you promise to be good.
SUSIE: okay okay! We promise.
(She crosses her fingers and other fairies laugh.  Magicians let them out.  They laugh.)

NARRATOR/JESTER: All was well in the kingdom again, until one day Susie Sally Sassafras got
bored again.

SUSIE: I'm bored.  Wouldn't it be funny if everyone couldn't stop dancing?

(Jester plays flute.  All the characters dance to the music.)
