Multicultural lesson plan

1. Lesson Objectives:

Subject observable objective: To encourage students to apply the comprehension of

their own culture and analyze their classmates’ culture.

Multicultural goal: Promote positive gender, racial, cultural, class, and individual

identities.

2. All Lesson Materials: Wide ruled paper, pencils, whiteboard, erasers, history

textbook, and markers.

3. Instruction- learning Process: Create a detailed outline of the multicultural

activity following the teaching design below:

Do First: (5 minutes.)

To start the lecture I will first talk to the students. Ask them how they are doing and ask

about any interesting activities that they have planned for their weekends. I will then

begin to talk about my cultural background and talk about how I see it portrayed in

history.

Mini-lesson: (15 minutes)-

My mini-lesson will be talking about the different cultures that are talked about in our

history book. I will talk about the different ways that they are different. Then explain that
just because cultures differ, doesn’t mean that one is better than another. That we

should embrace learning about all cultures.

Guided Practice:(10 minutes)

For my guided practice, I will have the students writing on a piece of paper how they

view their own culture. I will instruct them to write about the things they appreciate about

their culture. If they can, then write about how they feel they are portrayed in history.

Independent Practice:(15 min.)

I will then leave them without my instruction so they can work on the activity. I will be

available to students that still have questions but this section of the lecture is dedicated

for the students to think about their culture and to display that knowledge.

Exit Slip:(5 minutes)

As an exit ticket, the students will be turning in the activity. We will also allow students to

share their thoughts and feelings if they so choose to.

4. All Resources: (Located in Last Page References)

5. Reflection:

The subject that was taught in this lesson plan was history. Students were taught to

comprehend cultural history and norms about their own culture. They were then asked

to apply this comprehension to analyze the cultures of their classmates.

By the end of this lesson plan, students were able to comprehend, analyze, and

became more open about different cultures.

The level of student engagement during this lesson plan was high. Given the subject of

the lesson plan, the students were able to participate highly in our open classroom

environment.

The strengths of this lesson plan include improved comprehension of multiple cultures,

ability to analyze different cultures, exposure to different cultures, and students finding

appreciation for their own culture. Some weaknesses of the lesson plan include

students hesitating to participate at first and some students did not know much about

their own culture.
