• Crankshaft pulley holding tool -
Honda No.O? JAB-001 040A.
• Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle -
Honda No.O? JAB-001 020A.
• Camshaft lock pin set -
Honda NO.0?AAB-001040A.

General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground lead.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn engine in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe tightening torques.

Valve timing procedures

• Engine at TDC on NO.1 cylinder D.
• Ensure crankshaft sprocket keyway at 12 o'clock
position fl.
• Ensure crankshaft timing marks aligned B & D.
• Ensure timing mark on each camshaft sprocket
aligned IlJ & Ii).
• 2008 engines: Install camshaft lock pin set to
lock camshafts in position 6.
• Reset tensioner III
o Compress oil pump chain tensioner and
install holding clip m.
NOTE: An oil pump chain tensioner holding
clip is supplied with a new tensioner.
o Install oil pump chain tensioner ~ and
remove holding clip m.
• Reset tensioner ml:
o Push plate downwards m.
o Retain in position with 1.5 mm pin m.
o Release locking mechanism m.

• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe all tightening torques.

• Removal/installation of timing chain requires:

o Oil pan removal.
• Engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder D.
• Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing mark is
aligned with oil pump housing timing mark fJ.
• Ensure camshaft sprocket 'UP' marks face
up ~.
• Ensure camshaft sprocket timing marks are
aligned 19.
• Ensure timing chain colored links are aligned
fJ & 19.
• Install timing chain tensioner 111:
o Loosely install timing chain tensioner 111 with
lower bolt Ill.
o Insert a screwdriver into tensioner 6.
o Turn the screwdriver 6 clockwise to
compress tensioner rail 1fJ.
o Install upper tensioner bolt 1iJ.

o Compress oil pump chain tensioner and
install holding clip m.
NOTE: An oil pump chain tensioner holding
clip is supplied with a new tensioner.
o Install oil pump chain tensioner m and
remove holding clip m.
• Reset tensioner mJ:
o Push plate downwards m.
o Retain in position with 1.5 mm pin [fJ.
o Release locking mechanism [fJ.

• Crankshaft pulley holding tool -
Honda No.O?JAB-PY301 OA.
• Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle -
Honda No.O?JAB-001 020B.
• Ensure crankshaft at TDC of NO.1 cylinder.
• Ensure crankshaft position sensor plate timing
marks aligned fl.
NOTE: Crankshaft keyway at 12 o'clock
position B.

General precautions • Install:

• Disconnect battery ground cable.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe all tightening torques.
Removal
• Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
o Engine removal.
o Cylinder head removal.
o Oil pan rernoval.
• Ensure crankshaft at TDC of NO.1 cylinder with
crankshaft pulley timing mark D aligned.
• Remove:
o Guide pulley bracket mounting bolt.
o Water pump.
o Crankshaft pulley.
o Timing chain cover/oil pump assembly.
o Timing chain.
o Timing chain ensuring colored link maligned.
Hold in position with a suitable tool.
o Timing chain cover/oil pump assembly.
o Oil pan.
o Crankshaft pulley.
o Cylinder head.
• Ensure crankshaft at TDC of NO.1 cylinder with
crankshaft pulley timing marks aligned D.
• Place the camshaft sprocket into the cylinder
head.
• Install the timing chain onto the camshaft
sprocket. Ensure colored chain link aligned with
punch mark on camshaft sprocket m.
• Fit camshaft sprocket and chain to camshaft as
an assembly.
• Loosely install camshaft sprocket bolt.
• Turn the camshaft sprocket counterclockwise to
pre-tension the chain.
• Ensure the camshaft sprocket timing mark
(scribed line) [l) is aligned with the cylinder
head.
• Holding the camshaft with a wrench 61, torque
the camshaft sprocket bolt to 41 ft. Ibs.
• Install the auto tensioner IJ.I with new o-ring and
gasket.
• Torque the crankshaft pulley bolt III to
14 ft. Ibs. + 900.
• Check and adjust valve lash.

• Timing chain tensioner locking pin -
Honda NO.14511-PCX-005.
• Timing chain tens'ioner nut and bolt - 5 x 0.8 mm.
General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground cable.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain
removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation (unless
otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP)
sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
• Observe all tightening torques.
Removal
• Removal/installation of timing chain(s} requires:
o Camshafts removal.
o Cylinder head removal.
o Oil pan removal.
• Ensure crankshaft at TOC of NO.1 cylinder with
crankshaft pulley 0 and idler sprocket timing marks
6 & maligned.
• Remove timing chain tensioner cover anda
nozzle m.
• Install a 5 x 0.8 mm nut and bolt m
& 61 in timing
chain tensioner.
• Turn nut m clockwise to compress the tensioner.
• Remove timing chain tensioner 13.
• Loosen valve lash adjusters.
• Remove camshafts.
• Remove rocker arm assemblies.
• Remove bolt l\1 and idler sprocket.
WARNING: Ensure that idler sprocket washer
JIiJ does not fall into the chain cover.
• Remove timing chain cover.
• Remove oil pump chain guide m.
• Remove timing chain.
• Remove and discard oil pump chain tensioner IE.
• Remove oil pump and chain as an assembly.
• Ensure crankshaft at TOC of NO.1 cylinder with
timing mark and key aligned m.
• Install oil pump and chain as an assembly.
• Install timing chain ensuring marked link maligned.
• Install oil pump chain guide m.
• Compress oil pump chain tensioner and install
holding clip m.
NOTE: An oil pump chain tensioner holding clip
is supplied with a new tensioner.
• Install oil pump chain tensioner IE and remove
holding clip m.
• Install timing chain cover.
• Ensure crankshaft at TOC of No.1 cylinder with
crankshaft pulley timing marks aligned D.
• Install idler gear ensuring marked links aligned m.
00 not install bolt l\1.
• Tension idler sprocket counterclockwise to remove
slack from timing chain and check that the timing
marks 0, 6 & IJ are aligned.
• Install washer I(i] and bolt l\1.
• Set the timing chain tensioner:
o Install a 5 x 0.8 mm nut and bolt m & 61 in timing
chain tensioner.
o Turn nut Ii) clockwise to compress the tensioner.
o Install tensioner locking pin m and remove nut
and bolt Ii) & 61.
o Install timing chain tensioner nozzle m and
cover a.
o Install timing chain tensioner 13.
• Remove plug II.
m and install plug II.
• Remove tensioner locking pin
•

Install rocker arm assemblies.
Install camshafts ensuring timing marks lID aligned.
• Check and adjust valve lash.
