Special tools
• Crankshaft pulley holding tool -
Honda No.O? JAB-001 040A.
• Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle -
Honda No.O? JAB-001 020A.
• Camshaft lock pin set -
Honda NO.0?AAB-001040A.

General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground lead.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn engine in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe tightening torques.

Valve timing procedures


• Engine at TDC on NO.1 cylinder D.
• Ensure crankshaft sprocket keyway at 12 o'clock
position fl.
• Ensure crankshaft timing marks aligned B & D.
• Ensure timing mark on each camshaft sprocket
aligned IlJ & Ii).
• 2008 engines: Install camshaft lock pin set to
lock camshafts in position 6.
• Reset tensioner III
o Compress oil pump chain tensioner and
install holding clip m.
NOTE: An oil pump chain tensioner holding
clip is supplied with a new tensioner.
o Install oil pump chain tensioner ~ and
remove holding clip m.
• Reset tensioner ml:
o Push plate downwards m.
o Retain in position with 1.5 mm pin m.
o Release locking mechanism m.

General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground cable.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe all tightening torques.

• Removal/installation of timing chain requires:


o Oil pan removal.
• Engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder D.
• Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing mark is
aligned with oil pump housing timing mark fJ.
• Ensure camshaft sprocket 'UP' marks face
up ~.
• Ensure camshaft sprocket timing marks are
aligned 19.
• Ensure timing chain colored links are aligned
fJ & 19.
• Install timing chain tensioner 111:
o Loosely install timing chain tensioner 111 with
lower bolt Ill.
o Insert a screwdriver into tensioner 6.
o Turn the screwdriver 6 clockwise to
compress tensioner rail 1fJ.
o Install upper tensioner bolt 1iJ.

• Reset tensioner Ill:
o Compress oil pump chain tensioner and
install holding clip m.
NOTE: An oil pump chain tensioner holding
clip is supplied with a new tensioner.
o Install oil pump chain tensioner m and
remove holding clip m.
• Reset tensioner mJ:
o Push plate downwards m.
o Retain in position with 1.5 mm pin [fJ.
o Release locking mechanism [fJ.

• Ensure crankshaft at TDC of NO.1 cylinder.
• Crankshaft pulley holding tool -
Honda No.O?JAB-PY301 OA. • Ensure crankshaft position sensor plate timing
• Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle - marks aligned fl.
Honda No.O?JAB-001 020B. NOTE: Crankshaft keyway at 12 o'clock
position B.

General precautions • Install:


o Timing chain ensuring colored link maligned.
• Disconnect battery ground cable. Hold in position with a suitable tool.

• Remove timing chain cover.
• Remove oil pump chain guide m.
• Remove timing chain.
• Remove and discard oil pump chain tensioner IE.
• Remove oil pump and chain as an assembly.
