Zumba is an interval workout. It moves between high- and low-intensity dance moves designed to
get your heart rate up and boost cardio endurance. Grooving to the beats of salsa, flamenco, and merengue
music feels more like a dance party than a workout, which is exactly what makes Zumba so popular.
Numerous students were present to witness this workshop. It all started with warm up session for about
10 minutes to charge up the participants for fabulous event ahead.

After which started the cool down session of about half an hour. Each song brought a new set of
steps, which were quite easy to pick up. Every participant seemed to be enjoying the session to the
fullest. Later on, many more students joined the fitness workshop. With tremendous energy the
participants divided themselves into two groups and started competing with each other with some Zumba
steps as instructed.

The workshop had a fascinating end with ‘Chris Lobo’, guest of the evening, singing songs from
’Retro to Metro’. The event ended at 6:30pm. It was definitely a fun way to get fit. This workshop definitely

students, and the professors of our college who strive day in and day out to make us better individuals
in all walks of life. Such sort of an event took place for the first time in the history of our college. An
entire week was dedicated towards this event.

department containing their logos were unfurled, and the slogans of each department were revealed to
everyone. CMPN had Wolverine, INFT had Black Panther, EXTC had Captain America, ETRX had Iron

On the first day, there was a Quiz competition elimination round held in M413. Huge number of
students as well as professors participated for it. They formed teams within themselves, and a total of 10
teams were present. Rapid fire questions based on technical knowledge as well as current affairs were

round. For the final round the venue was Gate-2. The name of the event was ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’
and it was hosted by Mithilesh Patankar, who dressed up like Amitabh Bachchan and presented the
questions exactly the same way Mr. Amitabh used to in his own version of the renowned show. The two
teams went head to head with each other. The competition was absolutely fierce and ETRX managed to
outwit the opponents and emerged as winners of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

Also, on the first day, the elimination round of ‘Mind Your Circuit’ took place. Here, for the
elimination round, a team member had to act out the given technical instrument/device and the other
team members had to guess it correctly. INFT and ETRX secured the highest points and qualified for the
finals. The 2nd round was held on the 6th of February. A circuit was given to each team along with a
jumbled algorithm. The team members had to connect the wires which were present in cups. The team
that managed to correctly connect the circuit won the round. The two teams really put a shift in, to connect
their circuit, and ETRX who outclassed the opponent, won ‘Mind Your Circuit’.

witness it. It was kicked off by Emad Haque and Swathy Nair, the hosts for the evening. The judges for
the day were Prof. Meenakshi Nandula and Prof. Jayanti Banerjee Das. After putting in a lot of effort and
hard work in the previous rounds, SE CMPN-B and TE IT-A, booked their places in the finals. The rules
for the finals were as follows: The proponents open first but close last. Opponents will open second but
close first. The same team member cannot deliver the opening and closing statement both. No vulgarity.
Excessive use of hand gestures must be avoided. Thinking time - 2 minutes. Opening Statement – 2
minutes.

Rebuttal Round – 12 minutes. Closing Statement – 2 minutes each. The topic for the finals was
– ‘Should the Right to Privacy be made Absolute.’ SE CMPN-B won the toss and chose to oppose the
topic, leaving TE IT-A, to defend the topic.
Student Council 2017-18
REPORT

SE CMPN-B, did exceptionally well in speaking against the topic. TE IT-A, also did fairly well, in
defending the topic. SE CMPN-B concluded first, followed by TE IT-A. It was a close-run thing, but
success was clinched by SE CMPN-B, who didn’t put a foot wrong. TE IT-A, gave their all, but
unfortunately ended up being second best. It was really an intense affair; the finalists had the entire
audience gripped. The students really enjoyed the debate, and so did the judges. Prof. Meenakshi
Nandula then spoke about the overall debate and also shared some points the finalists missed out on.
Prof. Jayanti Banerjee Das was extremely gladdened by the way the finalists competed. She said it was
the best debate she witnessed in our college and lauded the finalists for going head to head with each
other, with real dignity and class. She was happy with the language and vocabulary that was on display.
Student Council 2017-18
REPORT

First off all, the runners up were presented with a massively sized fancy cheque which looked
pretty great. They won an amount of Rs.1000/-. The winners and the runner’s up then shook hands.
Then, the winners were called upon and were presented a cheque of Rs. 2000/-. Finally, Sanket Sutar
(Literary Secretary) was summoned to propose the vote of thanks.

Debate skills are essential to public life. When the world’s first universities were established,
three skills were considered essential for leadership and promotion of the best ideas: grammar, logic,
and rhetoric—what we now know as reading, writing, and speaking. Today in the 21st century, the ability
to create, present, and evaluate ideas remains essential to democracy and commerce in modern
societies. A debate program fosters these traits. Debate develops skills and knowledge that will help the
debater become an elite and college-ready student and will also help them to develop a civic and political
identity. Students will develop a sense of ownership of the world and a sense of empowerment, as they
will know specific global and domestic issues, and the ways in which the government can solve our
generation’s problems.

The event was brilliantly organized and turned out to be a grand success. It concluded at 6:00PM.

the participants must compulsorily use one Hindi word in each sentence they framed. The second round
was fantastic and Advait from Ramnarain Ruia College, ended up being the winner.
The event turned out to be a grand success. Few moments later, Hormuz was interviewed by
