Explain the role global logistics plays in supply chain, and describe how you plan to use

this degree in your career. (350 words or less)

As the global economy moved into the 21st Century, logistics became a critical part of supply chain
management and consumer demand. In less than two decades, logistics management has influenced
product movement to meet or exceed consumer demand. Companies saw they could lower costs and
increase productivity by managing logistics on a system theory and managing the company as a
whole to boost performance.

‘Logistics’ and ‘supply chain’ are sometimes used interchangeably, but there is a difference.
Logistics refers to the processes involved in the handling of goods, such as transporting materials,
storing them or distributing products.

Supply chain refers to the ‘bigger picture’, under which logistics falls. It is the whole network of the
different parties involved in getting goods from supplier to consumer. For example, the supply chain
network for a loaf of bread would include everyone from the farmer growing the wheat, to the
supermarket selling the loaf.

Logistics is an essential component of supply chain management. It involves the planning, carrying
out and management of goods, services, and information from the point of origin to the point of
consumption. Logistics aligns the complex pattern of traffic and transportation, shipping and
receiving, import and export operations, warehousing, inventory management, purchasing,
production planning, and customer service. Companies see logistics as a critical blueprint of the
supply chain. It is used to manage, coordinate and monitor resources needed to move products in a
smooth, timely, cost-effective and reliable manner.

Global supply chain management has many benefits for a company. It enables business processes
to be organized using international organizations that be reduced, companies can react rapidly to
unforeseen market conditions, transport strategies can be improved, costs can be minimized and
waste can be eliminated.

Not sure how we can use this particular degree and link it to my career but i guess logistics will
allow me to learn the import and export of health related machinery parts when i want to start my
own healthcare company and medical lab chain in future.
