STRUCTURE OF ATTITUDES

Example: Ms Pakos eats an apple for breakfast every morning. It makes her feel good. She thinks
that eating apples makes her healthy
Using the ABC model of attitudes Ms Pakos’ attitude is composed of:
 Affective component (how she feels)- likes apples
Behavioural component (what she does)- eats apples every morning
Cognitive component (what she believes)– thinks/believes apples make her healthy

Adaptive/ utilitarian  – guides you to useful behaviour.
 
Self-expressive – informs others about you.
 
Ego-defensive – protects your self-esteem.
 
Knowledge – helps understand your world.
