Question No. : 1
Is depression a chemical problem or a psychological problem? And does it need a chemical cure or a philosophical cure?
Actually, we aren't advanced enough in either area for it to explain things fully. The chemical cure and the psychological cure
both have a role to play and depression is braided so deep into us that there is no separating it from our character and
personality.

There are three things people tend to confuse: depression, grief and sadness. Grief is explicitly reactive. If you have a loss and
you feel incredibly unhappy, and then, six months later, you are still deeply sad, but you're functioning a little better, it's
probably grief, and it will probably ultimately resolve itself in some measure. If you experience a catastrophic loss, and you feel
terrible, and six months later you can barely function at all, then it's probably a depression that was triggered by the
catastrophic circumstances. The trajectory tells us a great deal. People think of depression as being just sadness. It's much,
much too much sadness, much too much grief at far too slight a cause.

You don't think in depression that you've put on a gray veil and are seeing the world through the haze of a bad mood. You
think that the veil has been taken away, the veil of happiness, and that now you're seeing truly. It's easier to help schizophrenics
who perceive that there's something foreign inside of them that needs to be exorcised, but it's difficult with depressives,
because they believe they are seeing the truth.

But the truth lies. People will say, "No one loves me." And you say, "I love you, your wife loves you, your mother loves you." But
people who are depressed will say, "No matter what we do, we're all just going to die in the end." Or they'll say, "There can be
no true communion between two human beings. Each of us is trapped in his own body." To which you have to say, "That's true,
but I think we should focus right now on what to have for breakfast."

A lot of the time, what they are expressing is not illness, but insight, and one comes to think what's really extraordinary is that
most of us know about those existential questions and they don't distract us very much. There was a study I particularly liked in
which a group of depressed and a group of non-depressed people were asked to play a video game for an hour, and at the end
of the hour, they were asked how many little monsters they thought they had killed. The depressive group was usually accurate
to within about 10 percent, and the non-depressed people guessed between 15 and 20 times as many little monsters as they
had actually killed.

I went to Rwanda and I happened to meet someone who described his experience in east Africa. He said, "but we've had a lot
of trouble with Western mental health workers, especially the ones who came right after the genocide." And I said, "What kind
of trouble did you have?" And he said, "Well, they would do this bizarre thing. They didn't take people out in the sunshine
where you begin to feel better. They didn't include drumming or music to get people's blood going. They didn't involve the
whole community. They didn't externalize the depression as an invasive spirit. Instead what they did was they took people one
at a time into dingy little rooms and had them talk for an hour about bad things that had happened to them." He said, "We had
to ask them to leave the country."

Question No. : 6
In the United States, the name Noah Webster is synonymous with the word ‘dictionary’. But it is also synonymous with the idea
of America, since his first unabridged American Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1828 when Webster was 70,
blatantly stirred the young nation’s thirst for cultural independence from Britain.

Webster saw himself as a saviour of the American language who would rescue it from the corrupting influence of British English
and prevent it from fragmenting into a multitude of dialects. But as a linguist and lexicographer, he quickly ran into trouble with
critics, educators, the literati, legislators and much of the common reading public over the bizarre nature of his proposed
language reforms. These spelling reforms – for example, wimmen for ‘women’, greeve for ‘grieve’, meen for ‘mean’ and bred for
‘bread’ – were all intended to simplify spelling by making it read the way that words were pronounced, yet they brought him
the pain of ridicule for decades to come.

His definitions were regarded as his strong suit, but even they frequently rambled into essays, and many readers found them
overly aligned with New England usage, to the point of distortion. Surfeited with a Christian reading of words, his religious or
moral agenda also shaped many of his definitions into mini-sermons or moral lessons rather than serving as clarifications of
meaning. Overall, his dictionary was prescriptive rather than descriptive.

Webster’s etymology, meanwhile, which he spent a decade dreaming up, was deeply flawed because of his ignorance of the
exciting discoveries made by leading philologists in Europe about the evolution of Indo-European languages from roots such as
Sanskrit. His etymologies conform entirely to the interpretation of words as presented in the Bible. He was convinced that ‘the
primitive language of man’ spoken by the ‘descendants of Noah … must have been the original Chaldee’.

Webster fought his battles over language not within philology circles but within the larger context of an emerging American
dialect. He believed that increasing immigration, the multiplication of unique American words, the new meanings attaching to
English words and the proliferation of slang – or, as the English saw it, vulgar and undisciplined language – made an American
dictionary essential to American life.

Because of high mobility and the blending of different cultures and backgrounds in the US, there were far fewer dialects or
dramatically different pronunciations than in England, where isolation was more common in spite of the smallness of the
country.

The British thought that Samuel Johnson’s great Dictionary of the English Language would suffice for America as it did for
Britain. Many Americans agreed, but many more wanted their own national dictionary to lend them a type of secular authority
that was analogous to the spiritual authority of the Bible. But then there was the question of whose American dictionary would
provide such an authority – which consideration instigated the ‘American dictionary wars’. Should Webster’s voice prevail, on
behalf of the Americanising of English and the writing of dictionaries that would record such usage? Or would Webster’s great
rival Joseph Emerson Worcester (1784-1865) with his more traditional, well-informed and solid scholarship triumph?

Their conflict became America’s. What emerged in the country was an adversarial culture concerning language in which
Americans fought each other in a civil war of words. It was also partly an ideological war, pitting various sectors of society –
political, social, educational, religious – against each other over the direction that American English should take.

Which of the following captures the essence of the passage?

A) What Webseter started as a strong sense of Nationalism in the form of lexical assimilation of words in America to fight
Britain’s influence on the newly formed society turned into an American conflict over which form of English dictionary to
be used in the country
B) Noah Webster’s largely biblical renditions of definitions of words brought forth a polemical issue over what should be the
foundation for his dictionary- Nationalistic sentiments, or integration of varied language variants to give a holistic
reference point for the new America’
C) America’s quest for becoming an independent nation, was further inflamed by Noah’s ambition to set free the language
of the new land from the clutches of the British. It was positively fueled by the competitive rivalry between Noah and
Worchester
D) None of the above

Question No. : 11
Doctors call the meeting point between the foot and leg the talocrural region. Until recently you could go through your
professional life blissfully unaware that men possessed such a thing. Now barely a day passes without one being thrust in your
face. Cole Porter wrote his immortal lines defining deviancy in 1934: “In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as
something shocking. But now, God knows, anything goes.” These days, the anything that goes includes men’s ankles – or
mankles, as they are now known.

The first mankles started appearing on catwalks some 15 years ago. Though men’s fashions move more slowly than women’s,
they are stickier: men have to live both with mistakes and triumphs for longer. Today the entire fashion industry is conspiring to
put men’s ankles on display. Tailors produce trousers that are not only slimmer than regular ones but also shorter, the trouser
equivalent of cropped tops. Sock-makers produce mini-socks, dubbed no-shows, that you can’t see over the top of shoes.
Advice online about “how to go sockless with style” suggests you roll up your existing full-length trousers a few inches, as if
you’re going paddling in the sea rather than commuting to work.

All of which is very unfortunate. A handful of men, like the ones who strode those first catwalks bare-ankled, may be blessed
with legs like racehorses and ankles shaped by Michelangelo. But even the best men’s ankles look good only when well-tanned
and complemented with deck shoes. Most men’s ankles miss that standard by a mile: pasty, hairy enough to qualify their
owners for a part in “The Hobbit”, so gnarled they could enter a knobbly-ankle competition, and attached to over-fed legs and
over-sized feet. The mankle fashion serves to draw attention not just to ill-shaped ankles but chunky legs, rendered even
chunkier by tight trousers, and long feet rendered even longer by giant trainers.

The great bare-ankle revolution sits poorly with other fashion revolutions. Men who combine naked ankles with bushy beards
are the modern equivalent of ancient Greek centaurs who had the torsos of men and the legs of horses. They’re also
unhygienic. The Royal College of Podiatry reckons that men who go commando rather than sport secret socks are at unusually
high risk of getting athletes’ foot and fungal nail infections: sweat and shoe insoles form a breeding ground for noxious
bacteria.

Then there is the ultimate abomination: the ankle scarf. Manklers have discovered that most places are cold in winter. To warm
naked ankles they’ve invented brightly decorated ankle scarves. “Wrapping the bare flesh between your foot and your shin with
a colourful silk scarf has never been more on trend,” according to Esquire magazine. One day soon, perhaps, the fashion mags
will be lauding a new revolution: knee-high, cotton-rich, distinctly decorated long sleeves for feet that keep you warm in winter,
prevent chafing and absorb sweat, and, of course, cover up unsightly body parts. Bring on the sock revolution.

Which of the following best captures the tone of the author in the last sentence of the passage?

A) He is enthusiastic about the possible new fashion statement for men, i.e. long sleeves for feet
B) He is sarcastic about the possible new fashion trend for men i.e. long sleeves for feet
C) He is condemning a possible new fashion trend for men i.e. long sleeves for feet

Question No. : 15
MEMO FROM: Bognor Consulting Group. To: Santa Claus, North Pole HQ, Lapland.

Thanks for asking us to have a look at your business model. Our staff have now recovered from their frostbite and have a
number of significant suggestions for a revamp before next year.

First, the brand name. The business seems to use several different monikers, including St Nicholas, Santa Claus and Father
Christmas. We suggest settling on one of the three. Father Christmas is clearly paternalistic and gender-biased. St Nicholas is
too overtly religious. Santa Claus is a much more inclusive term. Once trademarked, there is a ton of money to be made from
merchandising rights, particularly from greeting-card companies and department stores. Frankly, your intellectual property is an
underutilised resource.

Making better use of it could help address your most glaring challenge: the lack of any revenue stream. Mince pies, carrots and
glasses of brandy are not a sound basis of remuneration for a multinational organisation. And who pays for the raw materials
needed to make the presents? Given the lack of paperwork about your funding, we are surprised that the authorities have not
launched an investigation into money-laundering.

Next, the distribution system. We admit you have an excellent record to date. However, in attempting to deliver millions of
presents from a single point over the course of one night, you have been flying by the seat of your sled. It would take just one
injured reindeer or a chimney accident and the whole system would grind to a halt. It is far from clear how you co-ordinate
your flights with air-traffic-control systems.

Outsourcing is the obvious answer. Amazon, Fed Ex and UPS would do the job just as efficiently. If the chimney-delivery route is
still preferred, then small drones may be the answer.

Now let us turn to working conditions. Basing your operation at the North Pole exposes your workers both to extreme cold
and, thanks to climate change, melting ice. It is a health-and-safety (or should that be elf-and-safety) nightmare. Speaking of
which, our human-resources department is unsure whether employing elves should be classed as an admirable diversity policy
or discrimination against Homo sapiens. As with distribution, the operation could be outsourced. The elves could be retrained,
perhaps as shoemakers.

Our team was also very concerned about animal welfare. Asking reindeer to fly around the world in one night, pulling a heavy
load, must put an enormous strain on their physiques. One of the reindeer has a very shiny nose and we recommend
immediate veterinary attention.

The next issue is data protection. You tell us you have a “list” which records whether children are “naughty or nice”. We are
afraid that checking it twice is simply not an adequate safeguard. Children, and their parents, have the right to inspect the list to
see whether they agree with your assessment. Even keeping the list is a breach of data-protection rules around the planet. And
how are the data compiled? The fact that you see children when they are sleeping, and know when they are awake, suggests
surveillance on an Orwellian scale. This must be stopped immediately. If you insist on pre-gift monitoring, simply look at the
children’s Snapchat accounts. That should tell you all you need to know.

While we are on the subject, how do you know which families celebrate Christmas and which do not? In some jurisdictions, you
may be liable to a religious-discrimination lawsuit.

We are also worried about succession planning. No insult intended but the white beard suggests you are past retirement age
and your rotund physique does not bode well for your health. You need to hire a graduate, preferably from an Ivy League
college such as Yule University.
The good news is that you do live up to many of the precepts of modern business theory. Just-in-time delivery, a flat
management structure and a purpose-driven ethos are all things we recommend to other clients. And no one can say that
flying reindeer are not “agile”.

2020 Bull CAT 12
Finally, we need to talk about the terms of our bill. Our expenses were considerable; have you seen the price of a first-class seat
on Lapland Airways? Your offer of a train set and slippers was very kind, but we prefer a bank transfer. Mind you, if you could
drop a hassle-free Brexit solution down the chimney, the people of Britain would be very grateful.

Question No. : 20

Know thyself’ is one of philosophy’s most ancient aphorisms. But is there such a thing as the self and, if there is, can it be
empirically investigated through scientific methods? Antirealists deny the existence of the self – for them it is an illusion, a
fiction of the mind. If there was no one to perceive it, there would not be a self. The concept of the self, in their telling, is
invented by cultural, social and linguistic conventions. It is nothing but a useful conceptual tool for organising human
experience

A) As per Anti-realist belief, self is the figment of one’s perception of oneself articulating the social, cultural constructs
representing and categorising one’s own experience
B) As per the Anti-realists, one’s conception of oneself is formed on the basis of the experiences in the social, linguistic and
cultural conventions
C) Linguistic, cultural, and social conventions influence our perception about ourselves that might be misrepresentative of
our actual identity
D) In an eternal quest to discover and define ourselves, we have fallen into a trap of relating our external experiences with
our perception of self, which is wrong

1. A sonic boom is the product of a series of shock waves arising from various parts of an aircraft—particularly its nose, wings
and engines—as it flies faster than the speed of sound.
2.Those waves are caused because air molecules cannot get out of the way fast enough during supersonic flight, and thus build
up in front of these parts of the plane.
3. The consequent change in pressure then propagates through the air and, when it reaches the ground, is heard as a
distinctive boom.
4. Mr Schlaerth’s idea is to reflect and muffle the worst-offending waves.
5. He would do this not by blending the engines into the fuselage, but rather by placing them well forward of the leading edge
of the wing.

Question No. : 22

For centuries, philosophers and theologians have almost unanimously held that civilization as we know it depends on a
widespread belief in free will and that losing this belief could be calamitous. Our codes of ethics, for example, assume that we
can freely choose between right and wrong. In the Christian tradition, this is known as "moral liberty" the capacity to discern
and pursue the good, instead of merely being compelled by appetites and desires. The great Enlightenment philosopher
Immanuel Kant reaffirmed this link between freedom and goodness. If we are not free to choose, he argued, then it would
make no sense to say we ought to choose the path of righteousness. Today, the assumption of free will runs through every
aspect of American politics, from welfare provision to criminal law. It permeates the popular culture and underpins the
American dream the belief that anyone can make something of themselves no matter what their start in life. As Barack Obama
wrote in The Audacity of Hope, American "values are rooted in a basic optimism about life and a faith in free will."

A) The feeling of free-will underpins the very notion of life.

B) The feeling of free-will is something has been imposed on us by philosophers and theologians over the course of
centuries.
C) The belief of free will is something which has been used as cornerstone of society and upon which, every aspect of society
is built.
D) Both options (B) and (C)

1. The session opened with the following telling question: “Have the last couple of years shown that our traditional finance/risk
models are irretrievably broken and that models and approaches from other fields (for example, ecology) may offer a better
understanding of the interconnectedness and fragility of complex financial systems?”
2. Discoveries are made in the context of our creations: our models and hypotheses about how the world works.
3. At a closed meeting held in Boston in October 2009, the room was packed with high-flyers in foreign policy and finance:
Henry Kissinger, Paul Volcker, Andy Haldane, and Joseph Stiglitz, among others, as well as representatives of sovereign wealth
funds, pensions, and endowments worth more than a trillion dollars—a significant slice of the world’s wealth.

DIRECTIONS for the question: Identify the most appropriate summary for the paragraph and write the key for most appropriate
option.

Question No. : 24

The levels of dissolved oxygen in the world’s ocean waters are declining precipitously. Just like humans, fish need oxygen to
survive, and so in ocean areas experiencing significant levels of oxygen scarcity, or hypoxia, fish populations are plummeting.
Although some hypoxic areas, called “dead zones,” occur naturally, hypoxia in coastal areas and inland waters is caused mainly
by agricultural run-off and by discharge of industrial waste waters. More than one-hundred permanent dead zones, many
covering thousands of square miles, exist worldwide today.

Since reproductive success is the most critical factor in the sustainability of any species, the extent of this threat to marine life
and genetic diversity can hardly be overstated. After several months in hypoxic waters, female fish produce fewer eggs.
Moreover, hypoxic conditions serve to alter the normal ratio between two particular hormones manufactured during the
embryonic stage when a fish’s gender is determined. During gestation and under these conditions, the mother produces more
testosterone (and less estradiol), which inhibits the development of female reproductive organs and other female characteristics
in the embryo, while promoting the development of male traits.

A) The declining oxygen is causing the fish to reproduce extensively due to which the food sources are fast depleting,
creating an imbalance in the ecology.
B) Sharp decrease in oxygen levels in the world’s oceans for which human activities are chiefly responsible has led to
imbalances in the hormones in female fish, resulting in female traits being suppressed and male ones being promoted.
C) Hypoxia is a major threat to the ocean life, causing female fish to produce more male offspring than female offspring,
because of the suppression of the testosterone hormone during the embryonic stage.
D) Hypoxia is playing havoc with the reproduction of fish, as depleting food is causing female fish to suppress the female
hormone leading and in turn produce fewer eggs.

DIRECTIONS for the question: The five sentences (labelled 1,2,3,4, and 5) given in this question, when properly sequenced, form
a coherent paragraph. Decide on the proper order for the sentence and key in this sequence of five numbers as your answer.

Question No. : 25

1. A true theory, for example, cannot exist if it is not a reflection on a previous action, having as its goal a return to practice, for
it is only in action that theory is confirmed or refuted, developed and enriched.
2. Systematic education as now known -with the school as the privileged point for the diffusion of knowledge, with the
professor as the only authorized interpreter of the long accumulated wisdom of the centuries - must disappear.
3. All barriers between 'school' and 'life' must fall, for they are artificial and false ; they are only one example, among a
multitude of others, of the separation imposed by a class society, just like the distinction between manual and intellectual labor,
theory and practice, knowledge and action.
4. Against these divisions we must affirm the unity and the dialectical tension in such diverse elements.
5. In effect, life is the real school and education is a permanent process of deciphering what is real, continually redefined and
enriched in the light of action and struggle against oppression.

Question No. : 30
Assuming that the emergence of consciousness in artificial minds is possible, those minds will feel the urge to create art. But
will we be able to understand it? To answer this question, we need to consider two subquestions: when does the machine
become an author of an artwork? And how can we form an understanding of the art that it makes?

Empathy, we argue, is the force behind our capacity to understand works of art. Think of what happens when you are
confronted with an artwork. We maintain that, to understand the piece, you use your own conscious experience to ask what
could possibly motivate you to make such an artwork yourself – and then you use that first-person perspective to try to come
to a plausible explanation that allows you to relate to the artwork. Your interpretation of the work will be personal and could
differ significantly from the artist’s own reasons, but if we share sufficient experiences and cultural references, it might be a
plausible one, even for the artist. This is why we can relate so differently to a work of art after learning that it is a forgery or
imitation: the artist’s intent to deceive or imitate is very different from the attempt to express something original. Gathering
contextual information before jumping to conclusions about other people’s actions – in art, as in life – can enable us to relate
better to their intentions.

But the artist and you share something far more important than cultural references: you share a similar kind of body and, with
it, a similar kind of embodied perspective. Our subjective human experience stems, among many other things, from being born
and slowly educated within a society of fellow humans, from fighting the inevitability of our own death, from cherishing
memories, from the lonely curiosity of our own mind, from the omnipresence of the needs and quirks of our biological body,
and from the way it dictates the space- and time-scales we can grasp. All conscious machines will have embodied experiences
of their own, but in bodies that will be entirely alien to us.

We are able to empathise with nonhuman characters or intelligent machines in human-made fiction because they have been
conceived by other human beings from the only subjective perspective accessible to us: ‘What would it be like for a human to
behave as x?’ In order to understand machinic art as such – and assuming that we stand a chance of even recognising it in the
first place – we would need a way to conceive a first-person experience of what it is like to be that machine. That is something
we cannot do even for beings that are much closer to us. It might very well happen that we understand some actions or
artifacts created by machines of their own volition as art, but in doing so we will inevitably anthropomorphise the machine’s
intentions. Art made by a machine can be meaningfully interpreted in a way that is plausible only from the perspective of that
machine, and any coherent anthropomorphised interpretation will be implausibly alien from the machine perspective. As such,
it will be a misinterpretation of the artwork.

Which of the following could be inferred from the passage?

I. It is nearly impossible for humans to interpret a machinic art form from a totally machinic perspective
II. Machines cannot be reflective and empathetic as humans are
III. Machinic representation in its art form would be the accumulation of machinic consciousness

A) Only I B) Only II C) Only III D) I & III

Question No. : 32

If the machines are given access to all the collective consciousness and experiences of humans and if they create an art form
reflecting that information, which of the following is true?

A) The machines would render a perspective that would be completely machinic and could be interpreted by us
B) The machinicartform thus rendered would still be ‘human’, as the experiences fed to the machines are not of machines
but of us

The layout of the ten buildings at a small community college begins with the Administration Building in the front and the
Cafeteria at the back. The buildings are connected by paved streets so that it is possible to commute from any building to any
another building directly or via one or more other buildings.

The Administration building is connected directly to the Hospital and the Medical School. The Hospital is connected directly to
the Medical School and the Mechanical Engineering department, which in turn is directly connected to the Medical School, the
Chemical Technology department and the Aerospace Engineering department.
The Aerospace Engineering department is connected directly to the Mechanical Engineering department, the Computer
Engineering department and the B-School.
The B-School is in turn directly connected to the Chemical Technology department, the Computer Engineering department and
the Mathematics department.
The Mathematics department is directly connected to the Chemical Technology department and the Cafeteria.

When choosing a particular route, one can neither backtrack on any portion of the route nor visit any building more than once.
The length of a route from one building to another is defined as the number of other buildings that lie on the chosen route.
e.g., if one goes from the Administration building to the Medical School directly, the length of the route will be 0, but if one
goes via the Hospital, then the length of the route will be 1.

Five countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – are in contention to conduct a sports meet. The eventual winner is
determined through several rounds of voting by member countries in the federation, with each member representing a
different country. All the five countries in contention are also members of the federation.

In any round of voting, the country that gets the lowest number of votes gets eliminated. The survivor of the last round of
voting gets to host the event.

A member is allowed to vote for at most two different countries in all the rounds combined. Hence a member becomes
ineligible to vote if both the countries he voted for in earlier rounds are out of contention in that round.

A member is also ineligible to vote in a round if the country he/she represents is in contention in that round of voting and any
member who is eligible must vote and vote for only one country in any round.

The following incomplete table shows the information of countries that received the maximum and minimum votes in different
rounds and the total number of votes cast in that round.

Maximum Votes Minimum Votes

A) 13 : 8 B) 8 : 13 C) 13 : 12 D) 6 : 9

QNo:-  1  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-
The defining characteristic is that life does not seem to be worth living – a sapping of energy.

1 – though the cause may not be significant, but it is there.
2 – is associated with depression, but the loss may not be a significant one.
4 – this option pre-assumes the presence of filters of happiness, which may be debatable.

QNo:-  2  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-
The example cited shows that the guesses of the ‘depressed’ participants were much more accurate than the wildly off the mark
guesses of the ‘normal’ participants.

1, 2 – are referring actually to the last para. It has got a better of touch of humor than the second last one and it also talks of the
role of the community.
3 – the gaming experiment was not done to see its effects on depression, but more about comparing a control sample of normal
people with depressed people. Nowhere in the second last para can it be inferrred that joy of playing video games can help reduce the
effects of depression.
2020 Bull CAT 12

QNo:-  3  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-
Refer the second para: If you have a loss and you feel incredibly unhappy, and then, six months later, you are still deeply sad, but
you're functioning a little better, it's probably grief, and it will probably ultimately resolve itself in some measure. If you experience
a catastrophic loss, and you feel terrible, and six months later you can barely function at all, then it's probably a depression

1, 2 – though the author uses 6 months in the para, one it is not strictly a time benchmark, and two we are not sure if we can call
6 months short term or long term.
4 – the paragraph mentions that depression also has a cause.

QNo:-  4  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-
Check paragraph 3. People in depression believe they see the truth.

“You don't think in depression that you've put on a gray veil and are seeing the world through the haze of a bad mood. You think
that the veil has been taken away, the veil of happiness, and that now you're seeing truly. It's easier to help schizophrenics who
perceive that there's something foreign inside of them that needs to be exorcised, but it's difficult with depressives, because they
believe they are seeing the truth.”

QNo:-  5  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
Refer to paragraph 6.
“And he said, "Well, they would do this bizarre thing. They didn't take people out in the sunshine where you begin to feel better.
They didn't include drumming or music to get people's blood going. They didn't involve the whole community. They didn't
externalize the depression as an invasive spirit. Instead what they did was they took people one at a time into dingy little rooms
and had them talk for an hour about bad things that had happened to them." He said, "We had to ask them to leave the country."”

The person says that not going out in sunshine and not involving the community is a unusual thing. Sitting in little rooms and
talking is also bizarre.

QNo:-  6  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   Refer the first two paragraphs of the passage. The passage begins with describing how Noah created one of the
first dictionaries meant to be used in America. And the second paragraph talks about what were his intentions for doing so. The
latter half of the passage talks about how there were other contenders, who wanted their versions of dictionary to be popular. And
which led to the ‘civil war of dictionaries’ (an exaggeration to describe the intensity of the events that took place).  Option B is
wrong, as the passage talks the biblical references to Webster’s dictionary definitions. But, whether it created a polemic is not
given.

QNo:-  7  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-   Primitive means earliest or ‘the central’ as per the context in the passage. Only the word cultured, wouldn’t be correct as per
the context. Rest of the words are synonymous to the given word

QNo:-  8  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-   Only statement III is correct. Refer to the last paragraph of the passage. It says that Worchester’s and Webster’s
and other prevalent forms of lexical resources polarized the population over what should be the American English. Both the
statements- I & II are factually incorrect
2020 Bull CAT 12

QNo:-  9  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   Option A best captures the essence of the given sentence.

As is given in the passage Webster was of the opinion that ‘‘the primitive language of man’ must be the foundation of the American English.
And quite often he utilized biblical references to define the words, which rendered a sort of biased definition or an interpretational one rather
than an unbiased literal definition

QNo:-  10  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   Refer to the first paragraph. Rest of the options cannot be factually confirmed on the basis of the information
given in the passage.

QNo:-  11  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   The last paragraph begins with author expressing his opinion about the fashion trend, which he calls an
‘abomination’. The paragraph then continues to talk about his prediction about the new fashion trend i.e. long sleeves for feet. So,
going by the sentiments expressed by the author in the preceding sentences, we can safely say that he is sarcastic about the same

QNo:-  12  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   The author begins with the origin or a past reference of  the ‘mankler’ trend. And he goes on to discuss the fashion
trends that are introduced to let men expose their ankles and comments that how it could be in bad taste, if, the feet are hairy or
are in bad shape. Option A seems to be the best answer

QNo:-  13  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   Given the fact that the passage talks about the fashion trend for men, and the seemingly, light-hearted personal
opinion expressed by the author, who is aware of such trends, option B is the best possible answer

QNo:-  14  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   ‘Trainers’ are generally used to describe the training shoes used for running or working out in a gym. Normally,
they are supposed to be easy fit and have more than usual space for the toe to be comfortable, unlike dress-shoes, which are tight-
fit.

QNo:-  15  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-   The passage is obviously in the form of a ‘memo’ or a ‘report’ from Bognor Consulting Group, and the ensuing text
tells us the changes that BCG suggests in running the Christmas operations. Though, the consultants do suggest outsourcing the
distribution process but definitely not the central idea. The idea is about transforming the whole model of Christmas on the
suggestions of Management Consultants.

QNo:-  16  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   One can’t but feel like snickering or being light-hearted on reading the passage. The style is an amalgamation of
detailed analysis of the whole operations involving executing Christmas. But, the author drops in indirect references that make us
snicker. Refer-“Our staff have now recovered from their frostbite”, “Mince pies, carrots…are not a sound basis of remuneration for a
multinational organization” etc.
2020 Bull CAT 12

QNo:-  17  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-   Though, reference has been made as a suggestion regarding outsourcing of the whole delivery process, but nothing has been
mentioned regarding the negotiations with the vendors

QNo:-  18  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   Refer to the last few sentences of the passage. The author says- “we accept …” and the last sentence makes a
reference about “people of Britain…” so, there is a slight indication that the organization operates from Britain

QNo:-  19  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   Nom de plume is a false name or assumed name. Rest of the words mean ‘nickname’

QNo:-  20  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   The passage talks about the anti-realists and their theory of what constitutes ‘self’. As per them, the conception of
self is false and misleading as there is no self. What we call self s just the transposition of our experiences into identity.
Furthermore, this is influenced by cultural, social and linguistic conventions. Option C is incorrect as “as per Anti-realists” is
missing.

QNo:-  21  ,Correct Answer:-  12345

Explanation:-   The paragraph begins with the description of sonic boom which is given in conceptual details in statements 1,2&3.
Statements 4&5 would follow the sequence which talks about Mr Schlaerth’s method of reducing the sound bursts.

QNo:-  22  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-   In the given case, option 3 is the best answer. It encapsulates the central idea of the passage and clarifies the
given context of the passage.
Option 1 is too general in nature.
Option 2 is incorrect as the idea of free will is not something imposed on us by philosophers and theologians. Yes, they have had a
role in the propagation of these ideas but option 2 is extreme in the given case.

QNo:-  23  ,Correct Answer:-  314256

Explanation:-   Statement 3 is the generic opening sentence in this case and statement 1 provides a description of the session
mentioned in statement 1. Statement 1 then raises an important question with regards to how approaches from other fields are
relevant. Stt 4 takes us towards the answer and this is followed by statement 2. Stt 2 and 5 are linked by 'how the world works' in
stt 2and 'entrenched views' in 5. also 2 talks about discoveries being made in context of our hypothesis models about how world
works but 5 provides contrast 'however' big failures can be wake up call. Statements 5 and 6 then provide a context for discoveries
and wraps up the given discussion.

QNo:-  24  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   The paragraph clearly states that hypoxia is majorly due to human activities like agricultural run-off and by
discharge of industrial waste waters, and the female fish in such waters seem to produce more testosterone leading to more
suppression of female triats, and leading to more male offsprings.
1 – fish population is decreasing sharply, not increasing
3 – it is the increased production of testosterone which is the culprit
4 – Food is not causing the suppression of the female hormone, but the decreasing oxygen content in the water.
2020 Bull CAT 12

QNo:-  25  ,Correct Answer:-  23451

Explanation:-
Against these divisions - the 'these' here refers to the separation mentioned in 3.
Hence 4 will follow 3.
The passage talks about the systematic education and that it must disappear.
stt 1 gives example of 5th
Hence the best introductory sentence is 2.

QNo:-  26  ,Correct Answer:-  1

Explanation:-   The paragraph in general talks about the Chilean elections and how one of the presidential candidate scored a
comfortable victory in the run-off round. The passage is not talking about the Latin American region in general. And hence
statement 1 is an odd one out. Order after rearrangement is 2543. Both 1 and 2 can make a good start but 2 fits in better with
543.

QNo:-  27  ,Correct Answer:-  2

Explanation:-   The paragraph describes the Turkish delight “ Lokum” and how it is made.
Hence statement 1 is the first sentence. Followed by 3-4-5. Statement 2 is talking about what was done earlier, which cannot be
linked with the other statements.

QNo:-  28  ,Correct Answer:-  4

Explanation:-   The paragraph talks about how any new technology when first introduced arouses fear amongst people and is
thought of to lead to disastrous consequences. 2, 3 and 5 all talk about texting while 4 talks about printing.

QNo:-  29  ,Correct Answer:-  12345

Explanation:-   The first three statements are a no brainer, and they’ll follow one another in the same order, i.e. 1,2,&3. As to how
would 4 & 5 fit in, statement 4 would precede 5, because statement 4 talks about understanding the tone and style of writing
would be ‘useful’, and hence it would be ‘help solve’ the question, as mentioned in statement 5.

QNo:-  30  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-   Both I & III are correct.

Refer to the last paragraph where the author says that human interpretation of machinic art form would be inevitably
anthropomorphic which would render it misinterpreted.
Also refer to the sentence “…is something we cannot do even for beings that are much closer to us.” So, I is correct.
Refer to the excerpt- “. All conscious machines will have embodied experiences of their own, but in bodies that will be entirely alien
to us.”, which makes III correct.

QNo:-  31  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-   Refer to the second and third paragraph, where the author has described the essential condition for us to
understand and interpret art form, viz. having the ability to empathize. Also, we can only interpret and art form based on our
experiences. So only statements I & II are correct
2020 Bull CAT 12

QNo:-  32  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   As the author suggests that even if the machines could produce art, its interpretation would be based on Human experience
and consciousness. So, even if the machines are given access to all consciousness and experiences, the art form would still have ‘human’-ness
to it, as it is produced based on our experiences and consciousness

QNo:-  33  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   The correct answer is Analytical. The author begins with two enquires in the first paragraph;  but, doesn’t pose a
contradiction to them. So, the style is not argumentative. He provides a detailed account of different scenarios and then provides
logical reasons to support or disprove them. He is not posing any theory of his own, while doing so. Analytical is the best possible
answer.

QNo:-  34  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   Anthropomorhized means human-form or like a human form

QNo:-  35  ,Correct Answer:-  34

Explanation:-   From the given information, we can map the routes as shown in the diagram below.

We can use principle of multiplication to figure out the number of routes. From the Administration building, there are 2 options –
Hospital or Medical School. From these, we have either 2 options or 3 options. We can continue in this fashion or simply make a
list of all possible routes as shown below. (In the routes below, 10 is represented with X).

12459X, 124589X, 12467859X, 1246789X, 1246859X, 124689X, 124367859X, 12436789X, 12436859X, 1243689X, 123459X,

13459X, 134589X, 13467859X, 1346789X, 1346859X, 134689X, 132459X, 1324589X,13246859X, 1324689X, 132467859X,
13246789X

So, there are a total of 34 routes to go from the Administration building to the Cafeteria.

Explanation:-   As China got eliminated in round 1, the member representing China are eligible to vote in round 2, So, total
number of votes in round 1 must be = 112 – 1 = 111
Number of voters in round 3 are 108 (rather 113), so that means 113 – 108 = 5 voters must have voted for Chinain round 1 and
South Africa in round 2.
Number of votes South Africa got in round 2 = 17 among them 5 got from China, so remaining 12 votes are from round 1. Also
20% of the votes of South Africa in round 1 voted for India in round 2, so South Africa must got 15 votes in round 1.

Explanation:-
As China got eliminated in round 1, the member representing China are eligible to vote in round 2, So, total number of votes in

Number of voters in round 3 are 108 (rather 113), so that means 113 – 108 = 5 voters must have voted for China in round 1 and

Number of votes South Africa got in round 2 = 17 among them 5 got from China, so remaining 12 votes are from round 1. Also
20% of the votes of South Africa in round 1 voted for India in round 2, so South Africa must got 15 votes in round 1.
Also, India got 40 votes in round 2 where 1 vote is of China, 9 votes is from the countries who voted for China in round 1 and 3
votes (20% of 15 votes) who voted for South Africa in round 1. So total votes India got in round 1 = 40 – (1 + 3 + 9) = 27
So Russia got 111 – (34 + 27 + 15 + 14) = 21 votes in round 1.
Likewise, Brazil got 34 votes and Russia got 21 votes in round 2 as there is no change in their votes.
Now, number of votes India got in third round = 108 – (43 + 23) = 42
In round 3, 17 votes who voted for South Africa and 1 vote of South Africa itself goes to Brazil (9 votes), India (2 votes) and Russia
(2 votes) and 5 members became ineligible to vote who voted for China in 1st round and South Africa in 2nd round.

Explanation:-
As China got eliminated in round 1, the member representing China are eligible to vote in round 2, So, total number of votes in

Number of voters in round 3 are 108 (rather 113), so that means 113 – 108 = 5 voters must have voted for China in round 1 and
South Africa in round 2.
Number of votes South Africa got in round 2 = 17 among them 5 got from China, so remaining 12 votes are from round 1. Also

QNo:-  47  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   Let the number of unscored questions be x, where 8 ≤ x ≤ 10

Number of scored questions, y = 100 – x, where 90 ≤ y ≤ 92
To find the required questions to be attempted correctly to score more than 200, assuming there are maximum of 8 unscored
questions in the exam. Among remaining 90 questions,
Let the correct attempts = c, wrong attempts = w and unattempted = u
⇒ c + w + u = 92⇒ w = 92 – c – u
Also given, 3c – w > 200
Substituting the value of w,
3c – 92 + c + u > 200⇒ 4c + u > 292
Taking u = 0 (as rest all may be wrong)
4c > 292⇒ c > 73⇒ c is atleast 74

QNo:-  48  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-   To maximize the score, let us assume that the unscored questions are only 8 and rest all are scoring questions i.e.
100 – 8 = 92 and all of them are correct. Maximum score = 92 × 3 = 276.

QNo:-  49  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-   Among the unscored questions,

Let the correct attempts = C, wrong attempts = W and unattempted = U
C + W + U = 8, total ways = n+r-1Cr-1 =10C2 = 45 ways
Total scoring questions = 100 – 8 = 92
Among remaining 92 questions,
Let the correct attempts = c, wrong attempts = w and unattempted = u
⇒ c + w + u = 92⇒ w = 92 – c – u
Also given, 3c – w = 250
Substituting the value of w,
3c – 92 + c + u = 250 ⇒ 4c + u = 342

QNo:-  50  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-   To maximize the wrong attempts, let us assume that there are 10 unscored questions (all wrong) and remaining
100 – 10 = 90 are scoring. And among those 90 questions,
Let the correct attempts = c, wrong attempts = w and unattempted = u
⇒ c + w + u = 90 ⇒ w = 90 – c – u
Also given, 3c – w = 30
Substituting the value of w,
3c – 90 + c + u = 30 ⇒ 4c + u = 120

Explanation:-   From the table, it is obvious that the Green House lost all its matches. We know that the Red House beat the Blue
House 3 – 0, i.e., 3 goals against the Blue House. So, the 2 “For” goals of the Blue House must be from the match that it won
against the Green House 2 – 0, and it must have drawn the match against the Yellow House 0 – 0.
Now we need to consider the matches Green House – Red House, Green House – Yellow House and Red House – Yellow House.
From the table, we know that the Red House had only 1 goal scored against it by either the Green House or the Yellow House. The
single goal scored by the Green House must have been against either the Red House or the Yellow House. Let us assume that the
Green House scored its lone goal against the Red House. In that case the Yellow House did not score against the Red House and
the 3 goals scored by the Yellow House must have been against the Green House.
In this case, of the 6 goals scored against the Green house, 2 were scored by the Blue House, 3 were scored by the Yellow House
and 1 was scored by the Red House. This gives us a draw between the Red House and the Green House, which is not possible as
the Red House has won all three matches. This tells us that our assumption that the Green House scored its lone goal against the
Red House is wrong and the Green House must have scored its lone goal against the Yellow House and at the same time, the lone
goal against the Red House must have been scored by the Yellow House.
We can now conclude that the Yellow House won against the Green House 2 – 1, the Red House won against the Yellow House 2 –
1 and the Red House won against the Green House 2 – 0.
The win by the highest margin was the Red House defeating the Blue House 3 – 0.

Two matches, Blue House v/s Red House 0 – 3 and Blue House v/s Yellow House 0 – 0 ended in unique scores.

QNo:-  65  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-
Matches Goals

Played Won Lost Drawn For Against
Blue 3 1 1 1 2 3
Green 3 0 3 0 1 6
Red 3 3 0 0 7 1
Yellow 3 1 1 1 3 3

From the given table, we know that the Red House scored 6 points with 3 wins, the Blue and the Yellow Houses scored 3 points
each with 1 win and 1 draw and the Green House scored 0 points with 3 losses. The Red House is obviously ranked 1. The goal
difference for the Blue House is 2 – 3 = –1 and that for the Yellow House is 3 – 3 = 0. Since 0 > –1, the Yellow House is ranked 2,
the Blue House is ranked 3 and the Green House is ranked 4.

QNo:-  66  ,Correct Answer:-  1

The loss by the least margin was the Green House losing to the Yellow House 1 – 2 or the Yellow House losing to the Red House 1
– 2.

Tank is already 1/20th full.
In 15 min. pipe A will fill 1/4th of the tank and pipe B will fill 1/5th of the tank.
Then pipe A, the faster pipe is closed and the slower pipe will fill 1/5th of the tank in 15 more minutes.
Now total tank filled is 1/20 + ¼ + 1/5 + 1/5 = 14/20 = 7/10, which the drain pipe along with the pipe B can empty in 15
minutes.
This means the complete tank they can drain in 15 × 10 / 7 = 150 / 7 minutes.
Pipe B can fill the tank alone in 75 mins.
Thus drain pipe can drain the whole tank in 1 / 75 – 1 / x = – 7 / 150
⇒ x = 16.67 minutes.

Suppose the area of the entire piece of land is 35. Reena’s share of the land is 14 while Reema’s is 21. On Reena’s share of the
land, the areas under rice nad wheat cultivation will be 4 and 10 respectively. Suppose the areas under rice and wheat cultivation
on Reema’s share of the land are x and (21 – x) respectively. Since the total areas under rice and wheat cultivation are equal, we
have (4 + x) = 10 + (21 – x). Solving this, we get x = 27/2 = 13.5 and (21 – x) = 7.5. Thus the ratio of the areas under rice and
wheat cultivation on Reema’s share of the land is 13.5/7.5 = 9 : 5.

QNo:-  71  ,Correct Answer:-  18

Explanation:-   Let their GM = 3x, then AM = 5x

Now, if the required numbers are a and b, then GM2 = ab = 36 and

 a + b = 20 (20 - b)b = 36, So b2 - 20b + 36. So b = 18 or 2. Hence the two numbers are 2 and 18.

QNo:-  72  ,Correct Answer:-  2400

Explanation:-   Varun invested 10000 for 12 months = 12 × 10000 = 120000 Rs

Dennis invested 8000 for 8 months = 8 × 8000 = 64000 Rs
Shewnty invested 12000 for 6 months and 6000 for 4 months = 12000 × 6 + 6000 × 4 = 96000 Rs
So the ratio of their effective investments is 15:8:12 = 35 parts. So Shewanti’s share = 12 × 7000/35 = 2400 Rs
so the required numerical value = 2400.

QNo:-  75  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-
Let total amount = T.
A would have got T × a. After A takes his share, there would be T (1 - a) left
B would have got T (1 - a) ×  b
C would have got T (1 - a)(1 - b) × c
D would have got T (1 - a) (1 - b) (1 - c)
D gets a % less than what A gets, or, T × a (1 - a) = T(1 - a) (1 - b) (1 - c), or

a = (1 - b)(1 - c) -------- Eqn 1

B and C get the same amounts, or (1 - a) * b = (1 - a) * (1 - b) * c, or b = (1 - b) c, or, b = c - cb, or

b = c/c+1 ------------ Eqn 2
b = 2a -----------------Eqn 3
Substituting, eqn 2 in and 3 in eqn 1, we get
c/2(c+1) = (1-c)/(c+1)
Or, c = 2 -2c, or c = 2/3,
b = c/c+1 = 2/5,  a = 1/5
a gets 20% of the loot, b gets 40% of the remaining 80%, or 32% of the loot. C gets 66.6% of 48%, or 32% of the overall loot. And
D gets the final 16% of the overall amount (20% lesser than A's share)
What percentage of what A got did C get?
A got 20% of overall, C got 32% of overall. Or, C got 160% of A
If the total amount is equal to Rs. 1000, what is the difference between what A got and what D got?
A would have got Rs. 200, D Rs. 160. A would have got Rs. 40 more than D.

Explanation:-   Let the capacities of the three vessels be 100, 100 and 400 respectively.
Then the milk and water in the three vessels is 40 & 60, 60 & 40 and 100 & 300
When all the three vessels are emptied in a large vessel, the milk and water in the large vessel is 200 and 400 respectively.
Now the ratio of milk is lesser than the water, so mixture of the vessel which can increase the ratio to 1:1 is vessel no. 2
We have to empty the mixture equivalent of the second vessel 10 more times to make the ratio of milk and water 1:1.
So the value of x = 10

QNo:-  86  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
They are exchanging the cars and coming back to their respective hometowns means that the direction and speed of cars remains
the same. Thus, the car which started from Delhi will reach X and from there move towards Jammu at the same uniform speed.
Similarly the car started from Jammu reaches X and from there moves towards Delhi at the same uniform speed.

Solving by options
For option 1, if the distance between Delhi and Jammu is 7x, then they will meet at point X which is 2x distance from Delhi. If we
consider the cars covering these distances in the next equal intervals of time, we see that the car which is at 5x speed would catch
up the other in the midway before the later reaches its destination. Thus, the option is ruled out.

For option 2, if the distance between Delhi and Jammu is 3x, then they will meet at point X which is x distance from Delhi. If we
consider the cars covering these distances in the next equal intervals of time, we see that the car which is at 2x speed would catch
up the other at the later’s hometown. As per condition they do not meet anywhere in between before reaching their hometowns
implies they can meet at hometowns. Therefore, this option is valid.

QNo:-  87  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-
We note that the information that the pursuers travel 3 miles per hour faster than the criminal turns out to be redundant. Let u be
the speed of the criminal and v be the speed of the pursuers and of the train. The distance from the prison to the place where the
train encountered the criminal is 8v + (2.4)v = (18 − 2.4)u = 15.6u ⇒10.4v = 15.6u ⇒ 2v = 3u .
After 8 hours of pursuit, the distance between the criminal and his pursuers is 18u − 8v = t(v − u)
for some value of t. This equation reduces to (18 + t)u = (t + 8)v which with the earlier equation yields t = 12.
Thus after 8 hours, the distance between the criminal and his pursuers is 18u−8v = 12(v −u).
Since the pursuers are travelling at speed (v −u) relative to the criminal, it will take them 12 hours to close the gap.
Hence it will take 20 hours after the pursuers begin to catch the criminal.

QNo:-  88  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-
We know that the inventory has reduced by 54 units. This means two things: (i) actual quantity sold was less than the figure that
was entered in the computer (i.e. after interchanging digits), so the unit’s place digit of the quantity entered should be less than its
ten’s place digit; and (ii) the  difference between the actual quantity sold and the one that was entered in the computer is 54.
From the question, we can figure out that the only answer choice that supports both these conditions is (a), as (82 - 28 = 54).
So the actual quantity sold = 28.

QNo:-  89  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
Here, 30, 24, 18 is Pythagoras triplet. Therefore, base of the triangle is 18cm and height is 24cm.
Therefore, area of triangle is ½ × 18 × 24 = 9 times area of 1st triangle (say x).
Solving, we get x = 24.
Now, sides of the 1st triangle are in the ratio 5 : 4 : 3 ,
Now, Let the sides be 5y , 4y and 3y.
So, the area of the 1st triangle =  ½ × 4y × 3y = x =  24, =>     y = 2.
As the sides are in the ratio = 5 : 4 : 3 , therefore, sides are 10,  8 and 6.
Hence, the correct answer is option 2.

QNo:-  90  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-
Let the four numbers be n1, n2, n3, n4 where n1 < n2 < n3 < n4. Let n1 + a1 = n2 , n2 + a2 = n3 and n3 + a3 = n4. The differences
between n1 and n2, n1 and n3, etc are tabulated below:

  n1 n2 n3 n4
n1 0 a1 a1 + a2 a1 + a2 + a3

n2 a1 0 a2 a2 + a3

n3 a1 + a2 a2 0 a3
a1 + a2 + a2 +
n4 a3 0
a3 a3

We require that n be minimised and these differences mut have distinct values. Let n1 = 1. Now n = 1 + a1 + a2 + a3 (because n4
= n1 + a1 + a2 + a3). Now a1 + a2 + a3 can be chosen as the least possible values, i.e., 1, 2, 3. However the order of choosing
should be such that the differences should be distinct. By trial and error (a1 + a2 + a3) can be (1, 3, 2) or (2, 3, 1) s.t. n = 7 and four
numbers can be (1, 2, 5, 7) or (1, 3, 6, 7) respectively. Hence the minimum value of n = 7.Alternate method: By trial method four
numbers can be (1,2,5,7) or (1,3,6,7) respectively. Hence the minimum value of n = 7.

QNo:-  92  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-   The obvious step of combining adjacent terms to give 1/n(n+1) is unhelpful.
The trick is to separate out the negative terms. Add and subtract even values from the expression
1 – 1/2 + 1/3 – 1/4 + ... – 1/1318 + 1/1319
= 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 +1/4 +1/5... + 1/1319 – 2(1/2 + 1/4 + ... + 1/1318)
= 1/660 + 1/661 + ... + 1/1319.

Note that 660 + 1319 = 1979
Combine terms in pairs from the outside:
1/660 + 1/1319 = 1979/(660.1319); 1/661 + 1/1318 = 1979/(661.1318) etc.
There are an even number of terms, so this gives us a sum of terms 1979/m with m not divisible by 1979 (since 1979 is prime and
so does not divide any product of smaller  numbers).
Hence the sum of the 1/m gives a rational number with denominator not divisible by 1979.
Therefore p will be divisible by 1979.

We are given the average of 4 integers is 72.5.
Therefore the sum of 4 of them is 4 × 72.5 = 290
a + b + c + d = 290
Now further it is given that a + d = 15 + 117 so, a + d = 132
Therefore using the above two equations we get b + c = 158
Further we are given that b - c = 12
Solving both equations simultaneously we get b=85 and c=73.
