The Egyptians, like the Romans after them, expressed numbers

according to a decimal scheme, using separate symbols for 1, 10, 100,

1,000, and so on; each symbol appeared in the expression for a
number as many times as the value it represented occurred in the
number itself.

Hieroglyphic Numbers
The Egyptians had a decimal system using seven different symbols.
 1 is shown by a single stroke.
 10 is shown by a drawing of a hobble for cattle.
 100 is represented by a coil of rope.
 1,000 a drawing of a lotus plant.
 10,000 is represented by a finger.
 100,000 a tadpole or frog.
 1,000,000 figure of a god with arms raised above his head.

The conventions for reading and writing numbers is quite

simple; the higher number is always written in front of the lower
number and where there is more than one row of numbers the reader
should start at the top.
Here are some examples:

= 640

(A) is wrong because

higher number must be
place in front of the lower
number.
(B) is equal to 130.
(C) is equal 103.
(D) is equal to 13.

If 3 pyramids have 1572 bricks how many bricks are needed to
build 5 pyramids?
Number of bricks to build one pyramid = 1572/3 = 524
Number of bricks to build 5 pyramids = 524 x 5 = 2620
