Why interested?:

25 year resident of Elmhurst, Illinois intrinsically motivated to give back to the city that gave me so
much. While living on Cayuga and Kearsarge until I went to college, my parents both worked full-time to
send my siblings and I to Visitation Grade School. Visitation and its faculty taught me how to balance a
workload comprised of education and sports, as well as instilling values such as character and integrity
throughout its program.

Upon graduating Visitation grade school in 2005, it was a tough decision on deciding between York
and IC. Ultimately, I wanted to play football and believed in the coaching staff that sold me on the
program. It was comforting to know that my parents, who were high school sweethearts and met at IC,
backed my decision and were willing to pay the financial burden that comes along with it. Not only did I
receive a top-notch education that would prepare me for college, I also walked away with a football
state championship my senior year in 2008. Given we were the top seed we were fortunate to not only
play on Memorial Stadium’s turf but also utilized U of I’s home locker room. I will never forget being
escorted by the Elmhurst Fire and Police Department from York and Roosevelt all the way to uptown
Elmhurst while the community waived and cheered us along. Knowing the community has your back and
was proud of you for what you’ve accomplished, was better than any ring or trophy.

Upon graduating from Immaculate Conception high school in 2009, I chose to attend Illinois State
University. I attempted to walk on to Illinois State University’s football program, quickly realizing I was
not a D1 linebacker. Little did I know, not seeing my name on the list taped to the coach’s office door at
6 AM was the best thing that could happen to me. I quickly found the president of the club rugby teams
information and attended the next practice. Rugby taught me to give it your all on the field while
trusting your teammates and battling your competition at all costs. However, as soon as the match ends
there are no grudges or sour feelings. For how brutal of a sport it is, it is a microcosm of the business
world. You battle for what you believe in, at the expense of hurting feelings along the way, but always
act in a professional manner and exercise modesty, never salting the wounds after a win.

I was born to two extremely smart, hard-working parents that lead by example. My mother was a
labor and delivery nurse at Elmhurst Hospital for nearly 30 years and my father is a managing
optometrist for LensCrafters.

My grandfather moved to Elmhurst because he traveled an extreme amount as a geological engineer

building damns all around the world. Elmhurst was the town of choice for them given its accessibility to
Ohare, Midway, the City of Chicago Via Train , 290 and 294. My grandma, Jean Conroy, worked as a
librarian at the old Elmhurst Public Library for 25 years.

I think I could write a book on why Elmhurst means so much to me and why I want to see it continue
to flourish. I’m very proud to say I’m from the city of Elmhurst because people that know of the town,
respect it. Simply put, I’d like to volunteer my time, knowledge, and work ethic because I know that
there were Alderman who did that for me.

The fifth Ward is one that deserves someone that has attention to detail. Whether it’s battling the
effects of more intense rainfall, wastewater treatment facility knowledge, basketball hoops that are
outdated at Pioneer Park, streetlights in the middle of the sidewalk running along Meister. I’m the kid
that’ll get it done. As cliché as it sounds, I’ll listen and fight for the people of the 5th ward. Although I am
only 30 years old, I have the work experience and emotional intellect to listen, comprehend, and tailor a
solutions using a common-sense approach. I don’t need this is an ego boost or a power trip, I just want

most complex business risks in America that can’t find coverage in the standard market.
