One way anova vs two way anova

The only difference between one-way and two-way ANOVA is the number of independent
variables. A one-way ANOVA has one independent variable, while a two-way ANOVA has
two.

One-way ANOVA: Testing the relationship between shoe brand (Nike, Adidas, Saucony,
Hoka) and race finish times in a marathon.

Two-way ANOVA: Testing the relationship between shoe brand (Nike, Adidas, Saucony,
Hoka), runner age group (junior, senior, master’s), and race finishing times in a marathon

The key differences between one-way and two-way ANOVA are summarized clearly below. 

1. A one-way ANOVA is primarily designed to enable the equality testing between three or
more means. A two-way ANOVA is designed to assess the interrelationship of two
independent variables on a dependent variable. 

2. A one-way ANOVA only involves one factor or independent variable, whereas there are
two independent variables in a two-way ANOVA.

3. In a one-way ANOVA, the one factor or independent variable analyzed has three or more
categorical groups. A two-way ANOVA instead compares multiple groups of two factors. 

4. One-way ANOVA need to satisfy only two principles of design of experiments, i.e.
replication and randomization. As opposed to Two-way ANOVA, which meets all three
principles of design of experiments which are replication, randomization, and local control.

Chi square vs anova


That said, chi square is used when we have two categorical variables (e.g, countries and types
of cancer) and want to determine if one variable is related to another. In ANOVA, we have
two or more group means (averages) that we want to compare. In an ANOVA, one variable
must be categorical and the other must be continuous
if we have one independent variable (with three or more groups/levels) and one
dependent variable, we do a one-way ANOVA

A simple boxplot gives us an idea about the distribution of weight by feed type. Using the
boxplot function, we display the underlying distribution of the data.

To determine if feed impacts growth, perform ANOVA analysis to test a hypothesis of


difference across multiple multiple samples.

T-test vs Anova
The Student's t test is used to compare the means between two groups, whereas ANOVA is
used to compare the means among three or more groups. In ANOVA, first gets a common P
value. A significant P value of the ANOVA test indicates for at least one pair, between
which the mean difference was statistically significant.
The t-test is a method that determines whether two populations are statistically different from
each other, whereas ANOVA determines whether three or more populations are statistically
different from each other. Both of them look at the difference in means and the spread of the
distributions (i.e., variance) across groups; however, the ways that they determine the
statistical significance are different.

Chi test vs T test


Both t-tests and chi-square tests are statistical tests, designed to test, and possibly reject, a
null hypothesis. The null hypothesis is usually a statement that something is zero, or that
something does not exist. For example, you could test the hypothesis that the difference
between two means is zero, or you could test the hypothesis that there is no relationship
between two variables.

Null Hypothesis Tested

A t-test tests a null hypothesis about two means; most often, it tests the hypothesis that two
means are equal, or that the difference between them is zero. For example, we could test
whether boys and girls in fourth grade have the same average height.
A chi-square test tests a null hypothesis about the relationship between two variables. For
example, you could test the hypothesis that men and women are equally likely to vote
"Democratic," "Republican," "Other" or "not at all."

Types of Data

A t-test requires two variables; one must be categorical and have exactly two levels, and
the other must be quantitative and be estimable by a mean. For example, the two groups
could be Republicans and Democrats, and the quantitative variable could be age.

A chi-square test requires categorical variables, usually only two, but each may have any
number of levels. For example, the variables could be ethnic group — White, Black, Asian,
American Indian/Alaskan native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, other, multiracial; and
presidential choice in 2008 — (Obama, McCain, other, did not vote).

Variations

There are variations of the t-test to cover paired data; for example, husbands and wives, or
right and left eyes. There are variations of the chi-square to deal with ordinal data — that
is, data that has an order, such as "none," "a little," "some," "a lot" — and to deal with more
than two variables.

Conclusions

The t-test allows you to say either "we can reject the null hypothesis of equal means at the
0.05 level" or "we have insufficient evidence to reject the null of equal means at the 0.05
level." A chi-square test allows you to say either "we can reject the null hypothesis of no
relationship at the 0.05 level" or "we have insufficient evidence to reject the null at the 0.05
level."

Why check normality of data


For the continuous data, test of the normality is an important step for deciding the measures
of central tendency and statistical methods for data analysis. When our data follow normal
distribution, parametric tests otherwise nonparametric methods are used to compare the
groups.

Why variance is important?


Variance is important to consider before performing parametric tests. These tests
require equal or similar variances, also called homogeneity of variance or
homoscedasticity, when comparing different samples. Uneven variances between
samples result in biased and skewed test results.
